We hadn't made reservations at the Blue Rooster Bakery on Memorial Day weekend, so the one hour wait there wasn't an option. We walked down the street and saw Teddy's Restaurant, with a chalkboard menu listing some interesting brunch items, and tables on the sidewalk with colorful umbrellas. There were plenty of seats available, so we took a booth. (We were 3 adults of a certain age.)
When you order 3 brunch items, one of them a special, and the cook gets two out of three wrong, that indicates a serious problem with the restaurant. Was it communication between wait staff and the kitchen, or was the cook recovering from a bender the night before?
My husband ordered a swiss cheese egg white omelette. when it came, he saw it had been made with egg whites, but no swiss cheese. I ordered a Lox Benedict. Yes, there was lox, but it came on top of a piece of ham, which I don't eat. I've never seen an alternate Eggs Benedict based on smoked salmon, in which there was meat as well. Until we hit Tedddy's. It was totally doused with Hollandaise sauce, and very unappealing. So we sent back both dishes, I requested a spinach omelet, and my husband requested his same dish, with the cheese.
Coffee wasn't replenished readily, as the waitress had disappeared. Our cousin had ordered the Greek omelette, and was satisfied with her selection.
Next time, we'll be sure to make reservations at the Blue Rooster. Now we have an idea why this restaurant was so empty at 11 am on a Sunday morning, and the Blue Rooster had no tables available.
