“A very pleasant experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Four of us had a Sunday lunch here today, and all of us agreed it was a very pleasant experience in every way. The old style of the restaurant was charming. Our young server was likewise charming, well trained and courteous. My crab cakes were as good as any I've had anywhere. The salads with the French dressing with blue cheese were different and very tasty. The corned beef and cabbage and the wahoo were likewise well prepared and very good. Desserts were also very good, with the creme brûlée a noteworthy completion to the meal. All four of could not have been more pleased with the meal.

This is one restaurant you must visit while in Clinton, NJ. Everything is great, food, service and staff. Yes, a little costly, but worth ever dime! Will dine there again!

“Heritage and fine dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Although not a true gourmet restaurant it is certainly an upper level fine dining experiene you can count on. An establishment that has been around since the 1700's. Located on the other side of the stream from the main street in Clinton town you can enjoy a walk there after you dine. The menu is not extensive but you will enjoy your dining experience. They also have their own bakery in the building which is not only a very good bakery but also prepares the deserts served in the restaurant. You should give it a try.

“Old World Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

The Clinton House may not be the nicest looking restaurant, but the food makes up for it. You feel like you're at a dinner party in someone's home. The lamb is tender and the Beef Wellington is scrumptious.

“Good food but read on........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I live nearby and have only been to the Clinton House 3 times. It appeals more to an older, mature crowd, which is fine, because then I know there probably won't be any kids running around or yelling at the next table. The restaurant has a bar area to the right with a half wall separating the bar from tables to dine at . To the left, are 2 dining rooms. The larger room has cozy red brick on the walls and a fireplace that is lit quite a bit. Lunch is served from 11:30am to 2:30pm. We arrived at 2pm & asked for a booth. We were seated at 2:10pm, which was fine. The waitress gave us our menus, got our drinks, then asked if we were ready to order. We told her, "No, we need a few more minutes". We weren't sitting there chatting, we were reading the menu and were not familiar with it. She then says, "Well, you better make it quick because the kitchen is closing soon." EXCUSE ME???????????????? I can't even make this up. We continued to decide on the menu selections & the waitress came back not rushed. If she had come one minute sooner, our party would have got up and walked out. This is an expensive restaurant. The management knows what time we were seated & I do not expected to be talked to this way. This is a good example of a good restaurant that has staff turning off their customers and who probably won't be back for a long time. Aside from the waitress remarks, we had Cream of Artichoke soup = Delicious. Another had a crock of French Onion soup. Looked great but eh, I've had better. I also had fillet of soul with real crabmeat, fresh green beans & red mashed potatoes = DELICIOUS. Another had a crab cake sandwich and another had a roast beef dish, both said they were good. For dessert, we split warm apple pie a la mode = delicious (baked fresh with their bakery, which is attached to the restaurant and open all the time. Overall, we had a nice, delicious, pricey lunch and enjoyed it. BUT, to the management of the Clinton House, I suggest that you train your staff better to make customers feel welcomed. Without customers, none of the servers would have a job. It's really too bad because we had a nice lunch, but the servers comment was a REAL turn off. I really don't know when I will be back.
