We've dined here many times now, and our most recent visit was once again verification that they are good at what they want to be--a standard, old-style American restaurant.
First, the place is spacious. The restaurant alone can seat a hundred or more I'd guess, and they have a lively bar in front that's about as big.
The wait staff is always competent and reasonably attentive.
The food is mainstream American style cuisine, Steaks, chops, standard seafood and chicken dishes, burgers and fries. On our recent visit, I had the pork chops marsala, which is about as exoric as they get. The salad that started the meal was again proof that they do a quality job; mixed greens, tomato and cucumber with fabulous butter-and-herb croutons that they obviously make fresh. The pork chops were fine, with the mushrooms done to perfection. My wife wanted their French burger, cooked rare, and she was quite pleased that they delivered it exactly as ordered (I wish she'd get her ground beef cooked through, but she loves the flavor).
A new twist on their service is that, after the meal, the waitress rolls out a cart and offers a complementary nightcap. I had to pass--I'd had one Martini (exactly as I wanted it) and needed to drive a couple of hours. But it's a nice lagniappe and I'll anticipate it in the future.
The place is not trendy. The chefs are not trying to produce works of art. If you take Coastline on its own terms, I think you'll find it's doing a good job. The only quibble I might have is that the prices are marginally high--perhaps a reflection of the high-rent neighborhood where it's located? At any rate, I wouldn't mind going back.
