If your thing is to be treated like you're the only people staying at a hotel, then book your vacation here. From the valet to room service to pool and beach staff ---the level of hospitality is unsurpassed. It's our first time here but not our last.

Great hotel in an good location. The grounds were well groomed with many flowers. Rocking chairs to relax in on the lower level. Professional, polite and personable staff. The beach was clean and lounge chairs well kept. The ocean view from our was nice but the floor of the room slanted and the glass in the windows were wavy. Looking out the window would make us feel dizzy like we were in a fun house! I would visit this hotel again but not stay unless the rooms were renovated.

My husband and I just returned from a two night stay at Congress Hall in lovely Cape May, NJ and we feel totally refreshed and pampered! It was our first time staying at Congress Hall "in season" as we usually stay at various bed and breakfasts in the area. What a pleasure not to worry about parking, carrying our bags, toting beach chairs and umbrellas to the beach, etc. We arrived about an hour and a half before check in at 3:00, and had a delicious lunch at the Blue Pig right there in the hotel. I opted to go light with a fresh salad with grilled chicken and my husband had a burger. We sat out on the glass enclosed porch where we could enjoy the view of the gardens while staying cool in the air conditioning. After lunch we went up to our room on the third floor where our bags were waiting. It was just as described with a king sized bed and delightful ocean view! The bathroom was roomy and clean with many thick cotton towels and terry bathrobes! We changed and took a walk on the beach and then sat in the shade by the pool where we enjoyed a glass of white wine. That first night we dined at Tisha's on the mall and back at Congress Hall went downstairs to the Boiler Room where there was music. The next morning we awoke early to enjoy breakfast at the Blue Pig, wonderful omelets, fresh fruit, and the best coffee! After changing into beach gear we headed across the street to the beach where the staff was waiting with beach chairs, large umbrellas, and towels which they carried out for us and set up. A menu is offered for beverages and lunch which they will bring out to you. The weather was perfect with an ocean breeze so we spent the morning reading and relaxing on the beach. In the afternoon we headed to the pool where again the staff set up cushions, an umbrella, and towels on the lounge chairs poolside. We later found a shady spot under the pergola where we ordered lunch. I got a panini with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, and pesto. My husband ordered a chicken club wrap with a beer. Fresh fruit is always available and I opted for a cup of watermelon. Back to our room for showers where the soap, lotion, shampoo, etc. were supplied (all Aveda Products). Great shower with plenty of hot water and pressure! We dressed for dinner and went down to the Brown Room for a drink which we took outside to enjoy. Dinner reservations had been made for us before we arrived by Amanda, and we had chosen to go to the Black Duck. The valet immediately brought our car and off we went for our 7:00 reservation. It was our anniversary and I was so surprised that the hostess knew this and escorted us to a very cozy table.( Amanda must have told the restaurant!) After another great meal we went back to Congress Hall where live music was being played until midnight in the Brown Room. After enjoying the sounds and a few beers, we went up to our room for another good night's sleep in the comfy bed. Since the Blue Pig has such good food we saw no reason to go elsewhere so breakfast was again enjoyed there, this time we sat outside in the shady patio. Checkout is not until noon, so we enjoyed some more beach time until 11:00 when we went to our room to pack. Our bags were carried downstairs by the staff and put in our car. Check out was seamless as we had paid for the room before our arrival and only had a few breakfast and lunch charges to take care of. The deposit for the room keys was removed form our bill. When I mentioned that we were going to have lunch at the Blue Pig prior to our departure, we were told we could stay parked right there at the hotel until we finished eating. What a pleasure not to have to move our car! Over lunch we decided to take advantage of the offer to book now for 2015 and receive a 10-12% discount on the room. So next year we will again celebrate our anniversary here at Congress Hall! Since we are only able to get away for 2-3 days, we decided it was well worth it to go first class here at Congress Hall. This is really the first Cape May vacation where we have not had to search for parking, load bags, and carry beach paraphernalia ourselves, and with the lovely accommodations, attentive staff, and excellent food, Congress Hall is the perfect spot for us!

Room Tip: Second floor rooms ocean side have a balcony. Those on the third floor have an ocean view but no bal...

We stayed for 4 days - which is one day too long for Cape May. This review is about the hotel, so I'll stick to that.

The location is great.

It's a very expensive hotel, and they don't give you beach passes.

It's a very expensive hotel, and they charge you for bottled water in your room.

It's a very expensive hotel, and the cleaning staff doesn't really clean. I left something under my pillow because I thought they weren't cleaning, and guess what? It was still there after maid service. Our family started putting small things under everything we could under the room, as a sort of game to see which thing the maid service would find - and guess what? After 4 days, the things remained. I bet they're still there too....

It's a very expensive hotel, and it doesn't include breakfast, not even coffee.

It's a very expensive hotel, and they charge you for every single thing, like when your kid wants to paint a sea shell for example.

It's a very expensive hotel, but you can't take your kids into the "brown room" to see the live entertainment.

It's a very expensive hotel, and they'll make sure to charge you for yoga on the beach.

I've stayed in many hotels, and I've never been nickel-and-dimed like this...

Oh! Before I forget: If you eat at the Blind Pig, the hotels restaurant, order EVERYTHING once the waiter arrives, order all your food, all your drinks and refills, because you won't see him again for a very long time.

Room Tip: Try to get a beach view.

First let me say that I didn't stay at this hotel, but had a bad experience nonetheless. We had heard that Congress Hall has an Ice Cream Sundae event for kids Sunday nights. We were told it was at 5 PM, but when we discovered that the web site said 6 PM, we called to double check. The person at the front desk told us it was on their schedule for 5 PM.

Ok, so after playing mini-golf in the heat with a 6 and 8 year old set of girls we headed over just before 5 PM. We asked where to go and were sent to the right place. When two women showed up to set up we overheard them say that they didn't open until 6 PM. When we asked about this they were apologetic about the mistake and said they would correct it with the desk immediately.

We weren't willing to wait an hour with two tired young children and they didn't seem to care about that. While we did receive the apology for the poor communication, nothing else was offered. What would I have liked? Offer us a solution to two kids who want ice cream, even if it wasn't from the party, i would have paid.

So we left disappointed and we will likely not return to the hotel after this poor experience.

We love this place! The rooms are clean and decorated beautifully. We were able to check-in at 8 am which was wonderful after driving all night with a child. You can't beat having your chairs, umbrellas and towels setup for you at the beach and pool! The pool was lovely and we enjoyed tie-dye Tuesday with our little girl. Breakfast at The Blue Pig Tavern was convenient and delicious. The outdoor seating was a nice way to start our day. I honestly believe the negative reviews about this place are either from competitors or from really hard to please guests. We will be back for years to come!!

We fell in love with Congress Hall many years ago and have been coming every year (without the kids) for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary. In the past when they knew it was our anniversary checking in, they would make a fuss. Sometimes a bottle of champagne was delivered on the house and one time they even upgraded us to the Bridal suite for free. This year they made us wait 2 1/2 hours to check in. We knew that 3:00 was check in time but arrived early hoping they would get our room ready. They didn't care and although we told them this was our 20th wedding anniversary and could they please try to let us check early...no reaction. It was obvious the whole flavor of this once upscale hotel had changed. The furniture and rugs in the lobby/reception area are worn and tattered as was the pool furniture and tables. The pool is in need of interior attention too. No extra special touches like we have experienced in the past. This hotel is not cheap...over $400 per night for a tiny queen/ocean view. Sadly, we will not be back.

Room Tip: Beach front are the best in my opinion but you pay for it.
