“Wonderful Experience!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We had a Great Experience staying at the Mission Inn. Susan and Ray are the Owners/Innkeepers, and they treated us like royalty. The breakfasts were superb, and in the afternoon, we enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and wine. Our room was perfect. We slept great in a very comfortable bed, and the modern shower was very spacious. The Inn is a short one block walk to the beach, and very close to the center of town. Susan helped us with restaurant reservations, sight-seeing tips, and just about anything you could think of. We highly recommend the Mission Inn.

The fiancée and I stayed at The Mission Inn this past weekend. We were visiting Cape May for the first time with hopes of learning a bit about the area before committing to a full-on move this upcoming summer.

The Mission Inn is beautiful. There are large common areas downstairs which include: an entrance room sitting area with fireplace; a side room (den) replete with a fridge full of complimentary wine, soda, and fresh appetizers in the afternoon; and a large dining room for breakfast.

Susan and Ray have been running the Mission Inn for 11 years and in that time, they have made many modern improvements. We stayed in the San Francisco de Asís room. You can get a feel for the room from the pics I've included (and the pics on their website) but when you are standing in the room itself, it is quite an improved experience.

The deep jacuzzi tub sports soothing jet streams and bath salts. The bathroom's shower is large and has at least six different settings that includes four low, knoblike shower heads that can align to target specific upper or lower back muscles.

The recessed, electric fireplace is a pleasant touch that has two settings: "heat" and "just for aesthetics."

The rug is soft and fluffy. Take a few steps with bare feet and you may think twice before collapsing onto the king sized bed. But then again, that mattress topper is tough to beat when your whole body sinks into it.

Here's an interesting detail: when you turn the fan on low at night and switch on the desk lamp, the sky painting on the ceiling turns into ocean waves. It's quite tranquil, especially after a couple glasses of cabernet franc.

Aside from Susan's keen eye for decoration, she is also a font of knowledge and can probably help you with any questions you may have about anything Cape May related. Within 15 minutes of us relaying that we were considering a move to the area, she was putting us in touch with a realtor friend.

Susan and Ray take pride in their home and the extra effort in hospitality translates to a happy visit for all who enter. We only stayed for one night and we had a lot to do in just under 24 hours, but the time that we spent at The Mission Inn made us feel at home.

Oh, and breakfast was creative, delicious, and tailored to our individual tastes.

This was the first trip to beautiful Cape May for my husband and I, and it will not be our last. Our experience with Susan and Ray at the outstanding Mission Inn had me make our reservation for our next trip as soon as we got back home, and we are looking forward to seeing them again in October. We felt such a warm embrace upon entering this unique inn thanks to Susan's "Welcome Home" greeting. Meeting Ray the first time was just as comforting. We so enjoyed the conversation with Ray after returning from a long day out and dinner at Tisha's. It is clear that they both enjoy being innkeepers. The inn itself is quite lovely, the rooms are spacious and immaculate, the breakfast is "yummylicious"', appetizers in the afternoon "hit the spot" after a full day walking around to explore the area....but with all the amenities (and there are many to relish) the real highlight is Susan and Ray. We have stayed at a number of inn's through the years, but they have now set the standard to which we will compare all others we visit in our travels. Thank you Susan and Ray, we look forward to our next trip in the fall to further explore beautiful Cape May and enjoying our stay at The Mission Inn.

There are so many wonderful things about The Mission Inn, I don't know where to start. The best way to summarize the entire experience is to say it felt like home. The inn-keepers, Ray and Susan, are such amazing and wonderful people who do everything to make you feel like you are part of their family. The intricacies of the place are unbelievable and absolutely stunning. It was great to stay somewhere that exudes so much history and offers an alternative to the plethora of Victorian era options available in Cape May. The hacienda style architecture envelops you with the warmth and comfort of a sunny day in southern California here on the east coast of New Jersey. My wife and I went for a "babymoon" over Presidents' Weekend. Despite the rainy day on that Saturday, we enjoyed our escape and truly appreciated all of the personal touches that Ray and Susan added to our stay with them. We received a babymoon care package that was so wonderful it brought tears of emotion to my wife's eyes. We learned about history from them, shared time working on a jigsaw puzzle, and shared stories and experiences. We would definitely like to return, and recommend this place as a "must do" to anyone who plans on visiting and staying in Cape May.

Room Tip: We stayed in the San Buenaventura room and thought it was excellent.

We arrived on a Friday evening to a gracious host and warm fireplaces. After a thorough tour we were escorted to our room. Unbelievable accomodations, spotlessly clean and immaculately appointed.
Appetizers and guests were in the large social room. The fridge was stocked with wine, iced tea, lemonade, beer and sodas. Help yourself and get comfortable, you feel like you are among family and friends.
Susan & Ray are eager to recommend a restaurant and make the reservations. Both of their recommendations were top of the line. The Pilot House and Tisha's were amazing in food and service.
Breakfast at the Inn was also quite good. Presentation was 5 star.
We will be returning this Fall.

Room Tip: All rooms are beatifully appointed with nice views of either the ocean or the courtyard.

This place is different - from the hacienda style architecture (no matter that you are in a seaside New Jersey town), to the colorful murals on the walls, designed by the owners, and the owners themselves, who are exceptionally warm, chatty, and determined to get to know you and make sure you are comfortable. Upon arrival we were greeted by our first names and given a tour of the common areas, including the lovely living room with a roaring fire, games, and fridge stocked and ready. The bedroom was elegant, had a fireplace and large flatscreen tv, and a spacious bathroom with an amazing spa shower. We were invited to relax and told that freshly made hors doeuvres would be served that afternoon in the family room. The next morning we shared a communal breakfast with the other guests; the food was all right, but what I really enjoyed was the conversation with the other guests and with the owners, who came and sat with us for a while.

The Mission Inn has character - if you are looking for something classy but a bit quirky, you're likely to be charmed. Just be ready for the hug you may get from the owners upon farewell.
