“Birthday Surprise/Christmastime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2005

My boyfriend surprised me by taking me to The Gingerbread House, blindfolded for my birthday. When he removed the blindfold, I was elated to see such a beautiful place all lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. It was such a wonderful sight. I couldn't wait to enter and see the beauty inside. We were greeted by the owners, Joan and Fred. They were such wonderful hosts. The rooms are immaculate and decorated very tastefully in a Victorian style. It was very warm and made you feel like it was home. In the morning, Joan would make tasty breakfast delights with fresh fruit and coffee. They were also available to us to give recommendations for places to go to see or eat. I would recommend The Gingerbread House to anyone. I know that we will definitely plan another trip there some day.

We stayed at the Gingerbread House during the last week of September. This was one of the most restful and peaceful vacations that we've ever had! Fred and Joan are fabulous innkeepers - they've mastered the art of being casual yet attentive. The master suite is a bargain; the room and bathroom are spacious and almost nothing can beat having your own private porch in Cape May.

If you're looking for the perfect overnight experience in Cape May, the Gingerbread House is definitely the right place.

Thanks for all the goodies at breakfast and afternoon tea, Joan!

Enjoy perfection from the moment you lay eyes on the Gingerbread House until the time you pack up and leave. The beauty of this amazingly restored Victorian home lies in the details. The loving care given to every detail of resoration is amazing. Teak woodwork, Titanium hardware, perfect ceilings, gorgeous art, beautiful furniture and rugs, and the most gracious hospitality around are always the norm. Joan's breakfast and tea treats are divine! Joan points out the important things going on around town, suggests appropriate reservations, and even kindly gave us tickets for a homes tour. Fred is equally friendly and helpful, even calling when worried that we hadn't arrived at the expected time. This year we even had the added treat of a small, tasteful flat screen TV in our room. We've been to the Gingerbread House several times over the past 8 or so years. It is always the highpoint of any season when we make a trip to Cape May and stay at the Gingerbread House.

If every future visit to the Gingerbread House in Cape May will be as comfortable and romantic as two recent days we stayed there in October, this wonderful B & B will be a choice of ours for years to come. From the moment you walk up to the elegant entrance and hallway of this beautifully renovated Victorian house a block from the ocean, until the moment you check out, Fred and Joan make you feel like you are staying with the home of your most fun cousins from your childhood. The house and rooms are classy, immaculate and elegantly furnished and comfortable, breakfasts are delicious and afternoon tea and snacks are delightful. After a long day of sightseeing or lounging on the beach, the soothing and relaxing atmosphere of this delightful inn welcomes its guests in the way that every hotel or other B & B should aspire to. This establishment is most highly recommended.

We were totally charmed by the atmosphere & by the host's Joan & Fred. What a lovely house! This to me was the perfect B & B to stay. I don't think that we can say enough on the way we enjoyed everything. So down to earth. That touch of victorian charm!!!!!!!! My fiance & I will definitely return!

We went to the Gingerbread House when our other B&B fell through, and I've never been so happy with an unexpected change of plans. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms on the top floor and couldn't have been happier. It was cozy and comfortable and perfect. We fell out of bed and walked to the beach in a matter of minutes - it's just across the street. The food was DELICIOUS - hot breakfast with a variety of fruit and yogurt options every morning.

The owners were sweet and obliging and wonderful. I don't have a single complaint about our stay - on the days when it rained, we curled up inside with books and boardgames, all provided by the Gingerbread House. We'll definitely be back next year and hopefully for years to come.
