Island Grill is just perfect. We shared the ceviche taco app, the goat cheese and berry salad, the coconut shrimp app, and the calamari app. Calamari is rarely remarkable, but it was exceptional, and the cherry balsamic sauce was perfect. For dinner we had the baked grouper special with an amazing lemon nage (the yummiest lemon sauce I've ever tasted,) perfectly grilled enormous scallops, lobster mac and cheese, and grilled grouper with mango beurre blanc and coconut rice. The grouper was cooked to perfection, the mango beurre blanc was subtle and lovely, and the coconut rice was just amazing and pulled the whole dish together. We had the passionfruit cake -- perfectly intense and interesting flavors -- with coconut lemongrass gelato and pineapple basil gelato (spectacular.)
The vibe of the restaurant is funky, fun, and very thoughtful. It feels casual and comfortable, but it's not the least bit sloppy. Lovely touches like small vases of fresh flowers at each table indicate the care with which Island Grill is run.
Service was perfect: enthusiastic, knowledgeable and attentive. It's increasingly rare to find a group of folks who actually enjoy their work, and when you do, it makes all the difference in the world.
Island Grill is BYOB, which is great, and there's a great little wine shop next door if you don't come prepared. Wine service was perfect (good glassware and flutes.)
The restaurant is cash only, and they remind you when you make your reservation.
Fantastic dinner. Can't wait to return.
