“Nice room, and affordable views of the ocean - but beware under powered AC unit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

We did an extended weekend at the beach shack... we opted for the family suite with a bedroom for the my wife and I and a pull out sofa for our 8 year old. The room had a decent mini fridge, microwave and TV. Loved walking across the street to the beach concierge service where for a smile and a small tip the beach boys set up your umbrellas and chairs. We splurged for a cabana, but in the end you get more breeze and closer to the ocean with the umbrella and chair. Food service on the beach is expensive but its the same food as you get from the Rusty Nail and tasty. Also note - no booze on the Jersey beach - some folks around us we're cheating but we choose to wait until happy hour.
The drawbacks - air conditioning was a simple wall unit and it huffed and it puffed and barely cooled the room. Also my wife and I wanted to close the door to the family room (wink - it was vacation), but then the AC flow to the family room was shut off, drawing complaints from the 8 year old. Overall I liked the relaxed, laid back vibe - but this is much more casual and rough than Congress Hall up the street. Service was up to snuff for a place owned by the Congress Hall folks.

Room Tip: We were right above the Rusty Nail and the live music went past 10 PM. If you are a light sleeper a...

This is the second time our family has been to Cape May, and the Beach Shack remains an enjoyable experience. It's not the most sophisticated of places, and the rooms could be improved (noisy air conditioning, tiny bathrooms), but that is outweighed by the prime location facing the beach, and the great atmosphere of the bar and restaurant. We appreciated the policy of stopping the live outside entertainment at 9pm, which is helpful for families with young children needing their sleep!
Staff is friendly, and the food is good value for money - the children raved about the ribs and burger at the Rusty Nail.

Room Tip: Choose a room preferably on the top floor facing the sea (to minimise through passage on the outside...

We just returned from a 2nd annual Girls trip to the Beach Shack. We are a group of ladies in our early fifties and loved the Beach Shack last year. We were not disappointed with our most recent trip! The staff is amazing from the front desk, to the beach and at the Rusty Nail Bar. The hotel is loaded with young children, families, newlyweds and of course people our age. The people that were staying at the hotel were great! We made friend from Arizona, Long Island, etc. We had a ground floor room near the shuffleboard court and had a blast watching everyone go by while we sipped cocktails in the late afternoon. Everyone walking by stopped by to say hello! The hotel in very conveniently located to the shopping/restaurant area. The hotel has their own parking lot and you're guaranteed a spot. When we drove out one night to dinner, the parking attendant placed a cone in a spot near our room so we would be close! Since we are from the Jersey shore, we know what seaside motels look like so if you're expecting a Miami looking resort - you won't get that. Would recommend this place for sure!

We stay at the Beach Shack every year. The staff is always helpful and pleasant. Love the atmosphere of the Rusty Nail. I do wish they opened for breakfast during the week. We stayed end of May into June since it is not peak season I assume is the reason. But I did see a lot of other guests looking to get breakfast. I love the set up at the beach we have had Adam he is so pleasant sets up the chairs so nice. One day we went our experience was not as good. Their was a young man and a girl sitting in the chairs. We were unsure if they worked at the shack so we kind of were left standing there. I finally asked them can we get chairs. He did not give us a choice like Adam has. He put us far from the water so it was hard with the kids. He threw our towels on the chairs. Felt like we were disturbing his conversation. But overall the Beach shack is a great place if you want that beach feeling.

Room Tip: 2nd floor nice beach view and nice to look down on the fire the rusty nail

Our first experience with the Beach Shack was in 2011. We loved it so much it was the natural place to stay on our return trip. The location is perfect, close to many places to eat and of course the beach. The rooms were comfy, clean, and well-appointed. There was ALWAYS staff around doing something; cleaning, setting out towels, serving drinks at the pool, etc. Our favorite amenity is the ability to have chairs, towels, and umbrellas set up for us on the beach. A huge shout out to Adam, who on Thursday, July 10, 2014, single-handedly set up chairs and umbrellas for numbers of guest. He did so with purpose, smile, and a "can-do" attitude. The one drawback is that the pool can be a bit noisy with all the children, but this certainly isn't a reason not to stay. On the day that you leave you wish to stay longer and enjoy the beach, they were nice enough to allow us to use their parking lot and even use the outside showers. Having the Rusty Nail right next door makes cocktail hour that much more fun!

I have stayed at this location many times even back to when it was the coachman, and have never had such a poor experience. I booked a family unit with two double bed and got a unit with one, when I told the office about it I was told they were all booked, another way of saying to bad your stuck. First night there were two girls out side our window being loud at 3:00 am you can not call the desk as there is no one there, you have to call another property for security. The room we were given was next to the laundry and very loud between what ever was running inside and the huge fan just out side the door.
They give chairs and table where the view is of the trash can, bags of towels from the laundry and the stair case to second floor. Dirty and loud not enjoyable at all. House keeping meets there in the morning and will use the chairs and table for their stuff, so don't plan on having coffee there in the morning. I had also add a package to the room for Rusty Nail vouchers and base ball caps, never did get the baseball caps. Just over all not the experience I have had in the past and not at all what it should have been for the price.. If you go make sure you do not get room106. The bed is not comfortable and there is set of towels per guest so only one shower a day or reuse towels that I don't even do at home.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 106 STAY AWAY FROM 106
