“Good Location but not the cleanest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

I was very dissappointed when I first entered my room. It was absolutly filthy, no amentities and it smelled. However, when I did complain the staff was extremly accomodating and they moved my room. My new room was a big improvement however it still felt like a cheap motel. I guess you get what you pay for. All in all we did have a great vacation and the beach staff were great. They set up our chairs with towels and umbrellas quickely and helped throughout the day. The location was great and the Rusty Nail resturant was a perfect set up and it made you feel like you were in a resort. If you do not plan on staying in the room, this place was fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor so that you have a better view. Keep in mind there are no elevato...

We had had a frustrating drive to the beach, but after we got there and had a few drinks at the beach bar, I was all relaxed. They have a bar area with chairs in the sand next to the fire pit, and have live music. It's a really relaxing atmosphere!

Also liked the bed linens and pillows--very comfy. It was a nice arrangement for a family of four, with a queen and two smaller beds in the other room. Overall, a nice experience.

Beach front in Cape May means across from beach. there aren't properties located "on the beach " per say ! it is an excellent location for walking to shopping and dining...could use a new mattress in our room #311. micro wave did not work. good wi-fi, and great beach service...Rusty Nail has a good food and beverage selection. it was our 2nd stay, and would return !

Room Tip: 3rd floor for couples away from pool and away from rusty nail restaurant...with kids first floor nea...

We just returned from our annual and much anticipated, Cape May end of the school year getaway. This is our 3rd visit to The Beach Shack and we couldn't have been more pleased. From the moment we step out of our car to check in, we are greeted with friendly, accomodating staff at the front desk which then continues to every employee we come across. The rooms always meet our requirements for cleanliness and have plenty of room to spread our things out. We love that we can fill the fridge with drinks and snacks along with the stocked mini kitchen (dish soap, sponge, utensils, dinnerware, papertowels, coffee pot) to further meet our daily needs while we are away from home. The location can't be beat; everything is within walking distance. For 3 consecutive years, we have zero negatives to share. Although we did notice more families staying at the Shack this year (not a problem for this childless couple) and the place was near full if not too full compacity. Don't wait to book your stay!! We will return for our 'school's out' celebration next June.

This is not "beach front' as described on the website Nothing in Cape May is as per the person at the front desk, food is not served to you on the beach unless it is during the season, also not on the website, shack is the appropirate word for the place, no central air conditioning, no phone in the room, wifi leaves alot to be desired, nothing to do in the town, beach access half a block up from the hotel, no elevator no lights in stairwells, clearly a motel. The staff however were very nice in both the hotel and resturant.

Room Tip: there are none don't take the third floor unless you pack very light

This hotel is blessed with a beach facing location; be prepared, it is essentially a motel like hotel with rooms opening into a coriidor/balcony.
Pros: Beachfront'; good sized rooms; very comfortable beds and bedding; friendly staff; nice casual laidback restaurant (rusty nail).
Cons: Expensive for what it is; tiny bathrooms.

Room Tip: ask for beach facing near the pool if you want a quieter room
