My wife and I dined at The Mad Batter on Thursday, October 25, 2007. It was, I believe, our fourth or fifth time eating there, and as usual, we had a splendid meal. My wife had the chicken (very tender and juicy) and I had their signature Crab Cakes, which, in my opinion, are the best in Cape May. Almost all lump meat, very little filler. And the accompanying sauce is sublime! Some reviewers have complained about The Mad Batter's Clam Chowder as not being "authentic," or "too watery." These people have a valid claim, but I still find the chowder - runny as it is - to be absolutely delicious. I know of no other place that uses the expensive herb saffron in their chowder! To me, it makes all the difference. Prior to my meal I consumed an absolutely enormous Chocolate Martini which was as delicious as it was large. I was able to fill my martini glass two more times from the jigger with the remaining drink! Good thing I have a tolerance for strong spirits. I think the best thing about the Mad Batter is that it's the kind of place that serves delicious food but doesn't make you dress for it. My wife and I have often picked The Mad Batter when we couldn't decide over where to eat in Cape May, and that's a compliment. We've always been happy and will always dine here so long as they keep the good food comin'!
