We arrived on a Tueaday, Feb 12th after 7pm. It was a quiet mid-week evening in Congress Hall, with several people at the lobby bar, around the fire, etc. We were seated with a decent crowd. Mike, our server explained all the seasonal specials, and we ordered. the truffle parm fries for an app, which was excellent. I was undecided between meatloaf, crab cakes, and the hangar steak, and Mike was able to describe pros and cons of all plates.
For dinner, we selected the grilled salmon and the crab cake entrees. Both were served with delicious sides such as grilled asparagas and mashed potatoes. Both dishes came out piping hot, and our server checked several times to ensure quality. Water and bread were kept full, and an assortment of homemade desserts were plentiful, and both of us selected the flourless chocolate cake.
The Blue Pig Tavern's prices have increased in the past several years, but so has service and food quality. It's tough to find a good place to eat in Cape May County in the dead of winter. Tonight, this was a great local dining option, and I am glad we took advantage of it. To save some money, there is a nightly 'blue plate' special which includes the entree and a soup or salad, keeping the check reasonable. They range from meatloaf to a seafood pot to a build your own pasta.
If you are driving down to Cape May to dine here, leave time to walk through the historic Congress Hall. Its a living and breathing example of how visitors flocked to the Cape May beach in since the early 1800's. A lobby bar with a roaring fireplace and lobby food service is available if you want a more casual setting. There is also entertainment on select evenings.
