“First and Last Visit to PSI”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

We decided to splurge on our weekend getaway to Cape May and dine at the highly rated Peter Shields Inn. The atmosphere is very lovely and the food was excellent . . . everything we expected and were willing to pay for. However, the service was lacking! The entire time we were there, our waiter spent most of his time socializing with the couple at the table across from us -- and we heard every word of their conversation -- which was annoying and made it difficult to converse ourselves. After opening our wine and doing the first pour, he never reappeared to refill our glasses. I had to turn around, grab the wine from the ice bucket and pour it for ourselves until the bottle was finished (three times)! When he finally appeared with dessert menus and we said we would pass on dessert this evening, he all but dismissed us -- turning on his heel and leaving before we even had a chance to ask for coffee. We are not people to complain or be rude to waitstaff so we don't know why he was so inattentive other than the fact that he was more interested in chatting with the couple across from us. What could have been a truly wonderful evening was in fact a huge disappointment due to lack of service. For this reason alone, we rate psi with only three stars.

“Excellent choice for a memorable meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

My whole family ate here over the summer during their early bird pre-fixe menu. We called ahead and asked if children were permitted into the restaurant and we were told we could. There is no kids menu (Which we prefer) and our daughters told the waiter what they wanted off the pre-fixe menu and the chef made necessary adjustments (swapping out one veggie for another, etc) to accommodate the girls. We enjoyed a summer corn soup, roasted beet salad, half of us went with the salmon and the other half with the beef. Each meal was expertly prepared, served hot, and beautifully presented. The desserts were also amazing. On top of being one of our new favorites in Cape May, this restaurant is BYOB. Which makes group dining more affordable.
While we were there, they had an excellent pianist playing during dinner. He saw our daughters and started playing all their favorite Disney tunes. Our table was singing and humming along.
Excellent food. Beautiful atmosphere. Wonderful staff.

“Best Restaurant in Cape May”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

The Peter Shields never disappoints. We have been going for years and love it. We sat outside on the patio porch which was lovely. The oysters are the best ever. We had the tasting menu which was exceptional and we were able to taste many different flavors. We recommend that. The service is impeccable. We recommend it highly.

“Awesome meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013 via mobile

This was the best meal I had on my visit to Cape May over Labor Day weekend.. I had the surf and turf. The beef was so tender and cooked to perfection. The scallops were excellent. Our waiter was attentive. And took great care of our his name was Christopher. Excellent! The restaurant it self is beautiful and the gentlemen playing the piano. Was a very nice touch!!!!! If ever get a chance need to eat there!!!!! Loved it!!!

“Excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

The inn looks quite impressive with enormous columns fronting the seaside.
Pleasant dining room with well spaced tables and comfortable seats.
Excellent food, the crab salad appetizer was fresh and tasty.
Main courses of steak and tuna equally good.
Good sorbets.
Only false note was the bread which was below grade.
Service was cavalier bordering on brusk and detracted a bit from the overall stylish atmosphere.
BYO obviously a plus assuming you know where to find a good liquor store.
