“It's always a delicious experience to visit the Washington Inn. Try the Peachy drink.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Make sure to ask for all ingredients in items on the menu. We thought we were having a vegetarian soup when the waitress said tomato and gorgonzola and we were surprised to find bacon in our soup. Needless to say, we were not happy.

“Good food, service and ambiance”

Definitely worth a visit when you are in Cape May. Service was excellent . Most dishes were very good. As a special treat for children they take them into the kitchen to select ice cream for their dessert.

“Horrible Service, Great Food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Let me start by saying that I am an avid diner and have very high expectations, but at the Washington Inn, basic service skills were not executed. Not even close.

We arrived about 5 minutes prior to our reservation (late night) and were escorted to pretty much the worst table in the house. It was a tiny table amongst huge dinner parties crammed in the corner. We asked the host who seated us if there was another table available. He said, "well I don't think so, let me check." He came back and didn't look optimistic until my boyfriend handed him a $20 and all of a sudden we were escorted to the front porch where there were several open tables and only one taken table. We had a lovely window seat with a couple dining behind us.

The couple dining behind us made our experience immediately uncomfortable. The man was complaining about everything. The prices, the food, the service and the fact their server forgot to put a candle in his girlfriend's dessert for her birthday. This man was so obnoxious we tried our best to tune it out. During this uncomfortable moment, another couple was seated and also experienced this guest's trashy behavior. After the offenders left, we all complained to our server that our experience was ruined and the room was tense and we wanted to relax. The same host came out to the other table and comped them a bottle of wine and didn't even come over to our table. We hadn't seen our server since he dropped our food off, not even once. We asked a busser for our check and left cash and booked it out of there. What a joke on fine dining service, a complete joke this place was.

The only saving grace was the food. We decided to do all apps and enjoyed the braised lamb & cavatelli broccoli rabe shaved manchego the most and highly recommend this dish. I would give this place another shot but because the food was so great but then I am reminded of the experience we had which was awful.

Hope you have a better experience than we did!

“The best of the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

Cape May has some of the best restaurants anywhere. This is one of the very best in Cape May. The Washington Inn food is always excellent. So is the service and atmosphere. We had started out going here for special occasions. But now we are going more and more often just because it is so very good.

We decided to go there last Sunday and we both had a great meal of Cioppino. We were talking with a waitress named Bianca who had taken care of us previously and mentioned that our wedding anniversary was the following week. She invited us to come back for our anniversary but, in case we couldn't, she brought us a small dessert to celebrate our anniversary in advance. (P.S. We just made reservations there for our anniversary).

We appreciate excellent food and this certainly qualifies. Each time we dine there, we just end up with a smile on our faces because dinner was so very good.
