“The first time was better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We ate here last April and really enjoyed the meal. The place is rather loud when fully seated. We had the dinner and a show option when eating this time. There were only two available choices for the appetizer, main course, and dessert. We had the cauliflower puree and it was bland! Had to add ALOT of salt. The main courses were good but the desserts were mediocre. Recommend not doing the dinner and show option if eating here. You will enjoy the food better if you can select it from their primary menu.

“It's simple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

This is simply one of the best restaurants in the USA, a must do if you are in Cape May.
If not the food go for the great wines!

“Over Rated Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

My husband and I live in Cape May County and frequent restaurants in the area VERY often. The Washington Inn located in Cape May, NJ is often the highlight of 'visitors' trips......not so for us who live here and have better to compare it to. As a family we tried it again this past Thanksgiving. We were so disappointed and had even met other local friends there who were departing as we were arriving. Their experience was the same as ours..."never again." This was a Holiday mind you...First impressions are lasting and important, so being seated by a kid in jeans with the personality of styrofoam really set the mood! My husband and I each had the worst crab cakes we had ever had (very smelly and fishy...what does that tell you?)). The meals were just OK..not a cut above as they should have been. We don't mind paying these high prices if everything is in order and appropriate. 35 yrs. ago it was great. I can recommend many better places to eat in Cape May and the surrounding area. I really regret their decline over the years in quality and hostessing.

“Gormet food, served in an elegant setting of an old Victorian Era building.”

Our dining experience was to complete satisfaction. Not our first time there, the return visits speak for themselves.

“Great Food and Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

We have been here several times over the years visiting Cape May. The restaurant has several rooms each with its own particular feel. The Wine Cellar is my favorite, but they all are wonderful. Great menu and wine list. The service is always wonderful. This year we visited with a group of 12 and they accomodated us nicely. The staff did an excellent job and keeping up with our drinks and delivering our meals hot and prepared to order.
