“Reborn as a Cafe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012

The Classic Tea Luncheon is still available , but the Tea Room has expanded it's menu and has become a cafe. Now paninis, wraps, soups and salads are available ala carte.

In our recent visit my wife and I found the new offerrings enticing but in the end we went for the Classic Tea Luncheon. The two soups, mushroom beef barley and tomato basil, were very good and substantial enough to be a light meal alone. Also included was a choice of three tea (half) sandwiches from a list of six; tea breads and a mini-scone; dessert, and a beverage. The cost was $18 each. After eating our soup and tea breads, we were full, so we took the sandwiches and desserts (small flourless chocolate tortes) in a doggie bag.

We ate in the enclosed patio tent, but those that prefer can eat inside in tiny dining rooms (they call them "horse stalls" - it is a carriage house, after all.) Both are air conditioned. The hours are 11 'til 4, closed Monday. There's plenty of parking in the Physick Estate parking lot.

It's a nice experience and we recommend it. We will go back to try their panini and salad choices.

“Horrendous service and food at lunch time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

This is the second time that my hubby and I have had lunch at the Carriage House Tearoom at the Physick Estate. The food and service were superb last summer; quite the opposite today!!! It was obviously a BIG mistake for us to eat there when there was a tour group filling the entire covered patio area...... We both ordered the tomato basil soup (which was very good) and assorted tea sandwiches. Today's tea sandwiches consisted of 3 half sandwiches with barely a schmear of filling within the grocery store style bread. It was obvious the sandwiches had been made ahead of time (wet bread on the underside and dry bread on the top). The hint of sandwich fillings were bland and tasteless. We both ordered the lemonade ~ it was ok, but never served with ice. Hmmmm..... To make matters worse, our young male waiter had no clue on how to wait tables ~ he kept forgetting what we ordered and had to keep coming back to ask us what we had ordered. He never bothered to ask us how we liked our lunch and seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers in the walkway. He also forgot to bring us our change from this overpriced, disaster of a lunch.

Avoid this place at all cost!!!! Hopefully they will get their act together again someday, but until then....

“Tea For Two or Four”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Wonderful every time. Service is top notch and the food is delicious. Portions satisfied the ladies, left the guys a bit wanting. Not over priced for this Cape May Resort Town. Make a reservation and enjoy your meal.

“Will NEVER Go Back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

We tried to have lunch there. None of the staff knew what they were doing. Everthing we ordered , they were out of. Finally we got three little pieces of something & a glass of BAD tea. COST $16.99. Sorry place. If you want to eat good food GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Also they were cooking meat on an outside grill & the SMOKE was so BAD ,it took over the outside eating tables.

“Terrific way to end our vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011

We'd toured the Emlen Physick Estate (very nice tours - talk about your conspicuous consumption!) and decided to stay to have lunch at the onsite Carriage House Tearoom. The food was excellent (surprisingly so), and the service was very friendly. We had lunch, but I saw a little girl having tea with her grandmother - it was clearly a treat for her, and the staff made quite a production out of it. Very nice.
