“Most beautiful porch in Cape May”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2009

We have stayed in 10 of the top b&bs in Cape May in the last 4 years, and this has the most beautiful porch and some of the best food. You are served Diane's innovative breakfast at your own table on this lovely porch (weather permitting) and are thankful there is no egg casserole here! The rooms are full Victorian, but spacious (and where else are you going to have a chandelier over your bed? Silver Room). The room staff is a local adult, not an overseas teen. Larry and Diane have been instrumental in starting the whole Cape May renaissance, and can tell you anything about the history of Cape May. The Inn is on Washington just steps from the mall, but quiet and shady. Parking is across the street. (See also my separate review of the restaurant)

“Room was musty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2009

We stayed in the Green Room, and my recurring thought was that this room must have been closed most of the year. It was like staying in your old aunt's basement. Fortunately, we had nice weather and were able to keep the windows open. There's a window-unit type air conditioner mounted above the sink, but it couldn't do enough to dissipate the mustiness that permeated the otherwise quaint, antique contents of the room. Breakfast on the veranda was nice. We brought our bikes and it was a short ride to the beach and the restaurant/shopping district. Parking was across the street and pretty tight if you have a large vehicle. Outdoor shower in rear of building was nice place to shower to remove sand from beach.

“Amazing Weekend getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2008

My boyfriend and i wanted to get away from the city for a weekend and called up hotels in Cape May on Friday night. There were rooms available in Alexander's inn and reading previous reviews we decided to go for it.

Larry ( the innskeeper) was a great host!! The rooms were beautiful. Bathrooms clean and towels changed every morning. The good part is that its a couple of blocks away from the beach and the madness. So you can have fun all day on the beach and have a quiet night sitting out on the beautiful porch drinking wine. Also, the Sunday brunch was included in our stay and it is to die for. A complete 5 course meal that is super delicious! Everything is home cooked including the ice cream! All in all a great stay!

“July 4th weekend getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2006

My husband and I stayed at the Alexander Inn over July 4th weekend this year and it was a pleasure! We found the Inn online and because we waited til the last minute to book something the Alexander Inn was one of only two places left with a vacancy. The pictures of the rooms didn't look like our taste but, the price was very reasonable so, we gave it a try. We are a young married couple and we've stayed at only two B&B's before so, we pretty much knew what to expect in a B&B stay. We were pleasantly surprised with the Alexander Inn! Although the rooms are very "antiquey"--being a little over the top for our taste, the room we had was spacious (bathroom was a bit small but, it worked out fine) and we had a view of Washington street. The inn is a good walk from the beach (3 or 4 blocks) and coming back from the beach after a long, hot day was a bit tiring but, it is right in the heart of the shopping area. It was very quite though! We loved our Innkeeper, he was very friendly and would give you lots of Cape May info whenever we asked. The breakfasts were awesome! We thought we were going to get your basic "continental" breakfast but, the Innkeeper served you out on the great wrap-around porch every moring with white linens and everything! The one day we had fruit, coffee or a variety of about 20 teas, fresh baked-piping hot muffins and strawberry crepes! This was included in our stay! If you're lucky to stay there over a Sunday they serve a 5 course brunch that's open to the public for $21.95 and it's included with your stay and it's was INCREDIBLE!! They have a friendly cat that lives on the porch named Helen that we really took a liking to. (we love animals) it was like being at home with our cat!
Don't miss the lighthouse and Sunset beach-get there by 8 to see the ceremony they have everynight and the sunset! You can also look for the rocks in the sand that have turned into round smooth, clear "diamonds"
We would definitely recommend the Alexander Inn to any couples looking for a nice quite getaway to Cape May for a reasonable price.
