“Go to the meadow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

This might be my favorite walk in Cape May-

We visited CM in early Oct.. specifically over the rainiest Oct days ever!!-- with the remnants of "Karen" passing through. Even though the weather was wet and windy the meadows were still beautiful. Yes- it was muddy- and we had to dress in multiple layers for the wind that would be present on one side and not the other- but the walk was an easy mile or mile and half walk to some great views of many water birds, shore birds, raptors and sparrows. We went early morning- afternoon- and again early evening. Not sure which time was our favorite but here’s a few of the birds we saw in our brief visits- 3 kinds of herons, more raptors than I could keep track of, sparrows –I ‘m not so good on those little brown jobs but I think along with the song, and swamp I saw a nelsons. Egrets, those darn swans, American and Eurasian wigeons, a variety of ducks, and a Great Horned Owl. But even if I would have not seen so many birds-it was a beautiful place to just walk and be in nature. Wear hiking shoes or mud shoes if you go after it rains. Part of the walk is on the beach.

“Lovely trails, good birds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

The Meadows is a must-do stop on every trip to Cape May for us. The Nature Conservancy takes excellent care of this property, removing non-native species and other invasives. Too bad they can't get rid of the invasive swans. In fall this is a great place to see hawks and falcons fly over; all year it can be great for songbirds near the dunes, and waterfowl in the ponds. Rarities pop up here all the time, so keep your binoculars ready!

“Great birding spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

The path is easy to follow and afforded a close look at many different bird species. This time of year we also saw lots of youngsters with their parents: swans, Canada geese, and Osprey. Give yourself enough time to use the path that takes you on the beach as well.

“Great birding spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Went on a guided walk organised by the Cape May Bird Observatory. Helpful guides, lovely birds, nice mix of land, sea and shore birds. It would be a fine place to bird by yourself, but the conviviality of the 7.30 am Monday guided walk was great.

“Awesome Birding Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We were there for the Annual Birding Festival and did an early morning walk guided by Pete Dunne of the Cape May Bird Observatory. The entire fall festival is an awesome experience, but going on this walk with Pete was fantastic. When he says we had a productive day of birding, you know it had to be a good walk! We saw shore birds, marsh dwellers, puddle ducks, raptors, and waders. A beautiful and serene walk, even if you aren't into birding, but just be considerate of those of us who might be!
