I've been coming to Cape May for the better part of five decades although not as frequently lately. A big reason why I've been coming less is that hotel rates are so very high here for skimpy accomodations. I understand supply/demand and the shear volume of guest these places process during the summer. But rooms in most places are small, worn, not especially clean.
Well, La Mer is the exact opposite. My oceanfront king was huge, clean and economical. The refrigerator is twice the size of standard hotel fridges. The wet bar area had granite countertops. The bathroom was spacious. The rest of the property -- halls, parking garages, lobby, pool -- all seem to be equally well cared for. I've been driving past this place for years to get a little closer to the heart of town, but it will be my first stop from here forward.
If I had to pick one 'downside' it would be the fact that the location is about 3/4 mile from the center of the promenade and/or town. Not much problem for me but if you like to walk everywhere when you are here it may be a problem especially if toting kids.
