“pre christmas getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We came for a pre holiday getaway and had a great weekend. Plenty of Christmas activities . The hotel is a great location, walking distance to all the shopping and Congress Hall. The rooms were very clean and the free breakfast was top notch

We stayed at the Marquis in November, off season. We love bed and breakfasts and wanted to return to Cape May. We changed from the B&B to this for something different. 1st of all yes the place is a little bit dated. But the rooms are clean, there are elevators (for the B&B guys that always have to carry the luggage up the stairs). Keith on the front desk always greeted us by name standing up each time. He was great with recommendations. He even warned us that off season some restaurants close early on off season nights when the business is slow. We found that out too. The breakfast buffet was very nice on Sunday morning and Carly was extremely pleasant and helpful. Her attitude and demeanor set the tone for our day! On Monday morning a good amount of the food was not out (again being off season). We were told up front that we could order as much as we wanted from the buffet line and that this would insure freshness and temperature. It did and it was very nice. They provide free parking in their lot to their customers which is really nice though the street parking meters are not in affect after October 31. Still to park right there and not down the street is great. Bed was comfortable. The view of the beach, off season with no crowds is great. 5 minute walk to the shops. We will definitely stay there again. They told us if we return in 3 years we get a 25% discount with no blackout dates. Yes it looks a little dated but a B&B community is surrounded by old houses and buildings it fits in there.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean. Believe it is pet friendly on bottom floor. The higher us the better view

My mom, sister and I went to Cape May for the first time in mid-November...not exactly the height of the season for a beach town. We went to check it out and visit a rental agency for a possible house rental in the summer. We couldn't believe how bustling this town was. It didn't have that lonely off-season feel at all!!

We just needed a place to stay for one night and were looking for something that was clean, inexpensive and provided a free breakfast. We were definitely satisfied in all areas.
This is a multi-floor motel directly across from the ocean. Our room was on the third floor and had a beautiful panoramic view of the beach. Check-in was effortless and the room was spotless. There was shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, moisturizer, a hair dryer, a coffee pot, fridge, and microwave. We had everything we needed. Being November, it was cold and we couldn't increase the heat above 66 degrees. One quick call to the front desk and Frank came to our room and adjusted it. The whole process didn't even take ten minutes.

The bed was comfortable with extra pillows and generous comforters. It was quiet, too. I had no difficulty getting a good, sound sleep.

The breakfast, which was included, was exceptional. All-you-can-eat buffet of the freshest, most delicious melons and pineapple and even warm apples, blueberries and/or peaches. Eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon, ham, creamed beef, bagels, pastries, belgian waffles, yogurt, cereal/granola/raisins... all fresh and delicious. (Yes, among the three of us, we tried everything but the bagels.) Coffee and juice were delivered to the table. We feel we got a good value since we chipped in $45 each for the room.

Parking seems to be an issue in general in Cape May, but we were able to park right behind the motel. And there is access to the beach right across the street which was convenient. I liked that there were lots of shops and restaurants within close walking distance.

I will be honest and tell you that this is an old motel. While it's charming for that reason, it also feels a little dated and the rooms were small. And it is a motel. We took the elevator up to the third floor and then had to go outside to get to our room. Brrrr.

With all the places to stay right in Cape May, we would choose to come back to this motel.

This "hotel" (really a group of condos rented out by a management company) is an utter rip-off. "Pay up front" and non-refundable, totally over-priced it's a tourist trap. The rooms shown online are not the ones you'll get -- you'll get a ratty, substandard room with horrendous beds. The public spaces and hallways smell like a college party dorm on an early Sunday morning; and they are filthy. The staff is quite less than helpful and whenever an issue arises and one calls the front desk one gets no satisfaction -- they do not even fake an attempt to be interested in customer satisfaction. This was my first experience of Cape May. I can tell you, it makes me wonder why ANYONE would visit this place, let alone spend money or waste time GETTING here or staying here. The whole city is not worth the hype.

Lovely cottage type room with it's white rattan decor and bright, clean room. The room opened up to a sitting area with a fantastic ocean view, as the hotel is just on the main ocean road.
Had breakfast included, I mean a full fresh breakfast with the works, which was the best we have ever had at any hotel, ever! Easy, free - off street parking till 1 the next day if you are interested in walking down the streets to shop (close by). Food and drink within walking distance too. Great town, love this quaint area, can't get enough. Will come back here again.

Room Tip: Any with ocean view, go off season.

This hotel is quite old and in need of refurbishing in many areas; however, it is clean and the location could not be better. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the ocean and could walk to the Washington Mall, a charming closed-to-traffic street with shops and restaurants. All together a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter.

We stayed here for the last two Exit Zero Jazz Festivals and will be returning for the one coming up in November. We found the Marquis to be ideally situated for all the different venues for the festival -- close to Convention Hall, and centrally located on the beach halfway between the farthest venues.

We most recently stayed in October for Victorian weekend and fall migration, and were once again delighted with the sixth floor ocean front balcony, watching the dolphins, the osprey fishing, and the black skimmers staging for migration on the beach right in front of the hotel. (Please don't let your dogs or children run through the flocks of birds on the beach in October. These are not gulls, but black skimmers, a threatened species, trying to build up energy for the rest of their migration.) Beautiful watching the full moon over the water, and the sunsets over the lighthouse.

The sixth floor suites are new, fully equipped, with a fabulous view. This place is so convenient and clean, with parking and a great buffet breakfast. The location cannot be beat. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Room Tip: Sixth floor suites are new with best views.
