Planned a romantic weekend with my wife. After searching many B&Bs found what I was looking for in the Smith Cottage. We live in an old house and know what to expect but found the ceilings cracked, caulking peeling, torn shades and painting nearly falling off. The furniture was comfortable and we appreciated the periodness of it. Was disappointed that some trim was replaced with modern equivalents and minimal effort was given to match the period. The stained glass by the Jacuzzi was a nice touch though.
We never saw any staff in the main house (other than at breakfast). During both meals they got our order wrong. Breakfast was adequate but would have expected something a bit more formal than being served by someone in a stained T-shirt. Privacy to the staff quarters were given by taping paper over the windows. I may be a bit particular but sloppy paint and cheap add-ons (like the blinds on the sun porch) show a lack of attention to detail. All-in-all would have expect a lot more for $280 a night
With so many choices in Cape May we probably won't stay here again. It wasn't bad but there are many other options out there.
