“A Mother-Daughter Get-Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

My mom and I took a trip to Cape May for Spring Break and stayed for a night at the Carroll Villa Hotel. It was a wonderful trip! We stayed in Room 9 which was perfect as it is a great size, and has two comfortable beds (one queen/full and one single). We arrived to a wonderful host who gave us lots of great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. The hotel is located right in the center of town and it is easy to get everywhere. We parked our car and didn't move it until we left. And the breakfast at the Mad Batter is a MUST!! It was a great trip! Thanks!

Room Tip: Room 9 was great for a couple or in our case a mother-daughter weekend!

A great place to stay. Super clean and the staff is friendly and kind. Close to beach and Washington mall. Overall a great stay!

Room was clean and fairly comfortable for a one night stay. Very safe and quiet. Front office staff was rude and unpleasant. Clerk sits behind a plexiglass window and robotically checks in visitors. (Not sure why the inhospitable window, as this is fairly safe, Victorian Cape May). Room furnishings were basically thrift store quality. Breakfast was lukewarm eggs and coffee with cold toast but sitting on the Mad Batter porch looking at the old Vics was delightful. Cleaning staff is excellent and polite. Good inn location as it is close to everything but, the inhospitable, "one size fits all, take it or leave it" attitude is detrimental. It's basically a rooming house, with a good location and not really a B and B experience.

Room Tip: Ask for third floor, definately and street side.

The Carroll Villa Hotel is charming and in a wonderful location in the heart of the historical district in lovely Cape May NJ. The hosts were most welcoming, and the food at the adjoining Mad Batter restaurant is of the highest quality. A very romantic place to stay and dine! The bar area is also very cozy, well appointed, and features live music.

Room Tip: Room 21 very nice with an ocean view.

We have been to the Mad Batter restaurant in Carroll Villa, but this was the first time we stayed over night. We had one of the smaller rooms, but it was clean, and just what we needed for a night away. Our dinner was great, and then we sat by the bar and enjoyed live music. The staff was friendly and accomodating.

My mom and I also stayed at the Carroll Villa at the beginning of the week. We had a great time. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed the inn at night, just hanging out in the nicely decorated and comfortable living room watching Dancing with the Stars. In the morning, we ate a delicious breakfast at the Mad Batter.

The off-season in CM is great. We really enjoyed how quiet it was, despite many shops and restaurants being closed or open for limited hours.

I'd definitely recommend the Carrol Villa for a great getaway!

My mother and I stayed at the Carroll Villa last weekend on a getaway trip - my first visit to Cape May. I am so glad we stayed at the Carroll Villa because it was delightful - the best location (half block to shopping, half block to the beach, not that we were interested in that in March), lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The Mad Batter was fabulous - best breakfasts I have had in a while, and dinner was great too. The bar is a very nice scene as well for happy hour - great beers on tap and fun martini selection, too. Dinner was delicious. Our room (14) was very comfortable, clean and had a nice big bathroom. It was on the third floor, at the front of the hotel. We could hear some street noise during the day but not at night. The staff was VERY friendly, nice and helpful. I don't know how busy Cape May gets "in season," but I am planning to come back with my husband at some point, and we'll definitely stay at the Carroll Villa!
