Don't be turned off by the location. This is a gem of an aquarium. I haven't been to the Baltimore aquarium (yet), but I have been to a couple of other aquariums in different states, and this has been my favorite so far. We made a special trip to Camden just to go to this aquarium, and I can see why people who are from out-of-town might be a bit turned off by the location, but the aquarium is nice and fairly clean and is right by the water. We noticed a wedding party was at the aquarium, too.
With our maps in tow, we set out to see everything that we could. It took us about two hours, including an extended time gazing at the shark tank. There's a lot to see. We didn't go to any shows. We also didn't buy any of the overpriced food. If you don't like going places that have a lot of screaming children, then you might want to skip this on the weekends. There were children all around, and often they would try to push their way to the front of the exhibit, without even saying a word to you. Any of the staff that I had contact with were nice and helpful.
There's plenty of fish, a small seahorse tank, some unique aquatic creatures, multiple shark tanks, a couple of hippos, barely any birds, some outdoor African penguins, and the well-known and well-loved petting tanks. The shark tunnel seemed a bit smaller than others that I've been to, but maybe it was just because we hurried through certain parts because we were surrounded by numerous strollers and screaming kids.
As an adult there's still plenty to enjoy. I went in with an open mind and left completely satisfied. Kids will LOVE it and they will learn, too.
