We needed a place to stay near Monmouth Park for the Breeders Cup, and finally settled on this place. And what a stroke of luck that was.
The B&B is charming and in perfect condition. Everything works, the rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and actually charming. We loved the personal touch in every square inch of the house, there is none of that awful big chain blandness. Breakfast was always elaborate and tasty.
The location is great, right by the beach, and only 10 mins walk to the town centre (Belmar) with its nice bars and restaurants.
The host was extremely helpful and welcoming, almost to the point of being unsettling for two Northern Europeans like us :-) (Belgian and Danish living in London). She gave us lifts to the station, planned day trips with us, wrote down directions to Monmouth Park racetrack, etc etc.
New Jersey itself is not the most pittoresque place (especially in the rain), but I personally liked it a lot. It feels like a real place with good and bad points. Belmar itself felt very safe, is very clean, and nice to look at with its leafy lanes with traditional houses on both sides.
Despite all these positive comments, the top of the bill for me was the nearby location of E Street, where Springsteen and his band used to do their early rehearsing.
This was our visit to the US, and we could not have had a more favourable impression of it.
