“Great hotel getaway - great for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend at the end of June (Th-Su). We had a third floor ocean view room that had a deck that looked out directly onto the beach and pool. The room was terrific (2 queen beds), accommodations were very well-maintained, and we had a nice kitchen area with a sink and refrigerator for the basics.
The hotel has a pool with a shallow and deep end which was appreciated. The shallow end filled with kids but for the most part the deep end was available to adults. The nearby tiki bar was great for pool-side libations and evening entertainment with live bands.
We went for my husband's birthday and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel is very near Beach Haven and we enjoyed quite a few walks while there, we only took the car out when heading to the other side of the island. As opposed to other hotels we've stayed in in LBI we found parking to be very easy and we never had to search hard for a spot.
While it was quieter the first few nights (Th & Fr) it never felt packed and the pool was never overfilled. Also the general crowd was very nice and thoughtful about asking the kids to give the adults some space at the pool. There's a beach entrance right near the parking lot which made it very easy to get our beach chairs/towels/umbrella right up on the sand and throw them back in the trunk before heading in for a rinse.
Tiki bar service was great and food was good for snacks. We didn't try the main hotel restaurant while there.

Room Tip: You could stay on 2nd or 3rd floor and still have a great view of the beach.

Girls weekend. What more could you ask for. Ocean views, pool with restaurant service and a full dining room with excellent menu. Love this place. Everyone is friendly and place is spotless. Requested wine glasses for room and were delivered under a half hour. They really aim to keep you happy

Took the family down to LBI for the Memorial Day weekend. First time we've all been to Beach Haven (I was there 25 years ago). We could only spare a few days and though we would have preferred 2 nights, their minimum for the holiday weekend was 3 nights, which is actually much better than most resort areas for such weekends. Anyway, made reservations late (maybe 2 weeks prior to the weekend) and took their last oceanfront efficiency room. Engleside came recommended by friends as one of the more civilized ocean side hotels/motels in the area.

The room was better than expected and more than sufficient. Mind you we were a bit apprehensive of a motel at the Jersey Shore, but our room was clean, reasonable well furnished (appeared to be a recent renovation) and larger than an ordinary chain motel. Our room had 2 queen beds, with room for an additional chair lounger and a small but most welcome terrace looking over the dunes onto the beach and ocean. We were on the third/top floor which meant no upstairs neighbors and a beautiful unrestricted view. I think the second floor is high enough to view over the dunes, but certainly not the first floor. The room had a small refrigerator, a sink, microwave and dishes, (call it a kitchenette) though we never utilized as we always ate out. There's a sleeve A/C unit that does the job well. The bathroom is pure "motel", but again, new and clean. The shower water restrictor was working full time (annoying as it can take 15 minutes to rid your scalp of shampoo) but, we can live with that, All in all, this was no Four Seasons, but for a "shore motel", it's more than acceptable.

The hotel's location makes it all the more worthwhile. Other than a 20 yard wide parking area, you are essentially directly on the beach. Views from the room and the terrace are pure "ocean". You can watch the sun rise from the Atlantic if your prior night's dinner didn't involve a second bottle of wine.

We didn't try the centerpiece restaurant, so I can't comment. We did eat at the Sand Bar, which is a smallish "Tiki Bar" nestled between the motel pool and the entrance to the beach. There food was very good, the beer was cold and the service was slow, but quite friendly. It can get a bit expensive for what it is, but throwing down a few cold ones with a tasty burger in your bathing suit directly off the beach makes it worthwhile - spells "vacation"!

The pool is small for the number of rooms and is filled with kids, but again,, it's a holiday weekend at the shore so it's to be expected. Still worth a dip to cool down. What there is of town and main street is 2 blocks away. A short walk to the local amusement park. Rent bikes a few blocks away for some fun and memories of the 1960's when your favorite bike was a cruiser with 3 inch wide tires and a dual sprung saddle that would hold a 32 OZ. ribeye.

So in general, with prior scepticism, we were pleasantly surprised by the Engleside. It is civilized for a family with youngish kids and refined enough so that you're not showering in your flip flops. Keep your expectations in line with a motel (not a resort) at the beach. It's better than expected, even better than we hoped. We'll come again.

Hope this helps.

Stayed one night for a wedding close by. Room was clean and convenient to everything we needed. Did not have an ocean view but we were close enough to walk on the beach. A little pricey but that may be because of the convenience to the ocean. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

Came for a weekend with friends, spent a fortune, would say it was okay. Doubt if I would hit the Restaurant again, very basic fare, and again, okay but very pricey. Better off at the poolside bar. We know folks need to pay a bit more to stay at the shore, but I'd say this was too much for what you get.

Spent another week at the Engleside Inn with our dogs, Kayla and Sam. The weather wasn't the best but we were away from home and with our dogs. Each spring and fall we spend a week at the Engleside Inn and everyone is so friendly. We had room service from the restaurant and the steaks for superb! The town was pretty much closed during the week but there were a few shops open. We never want to leave and go home but we will see them again in October. We stay in the same room - Room 105 (efficiency suite) and its always super clean and I could ever find fault with anything there.
See you in a few months!

Room Tip: Room 105 has a full kitchen so you prepare your meals and save money. Also, there's lots of roo...

I stayed 5/10/14 in a suite. One large, comfortable bed with thick bedding and two couches that were pull-out beds. The room was no "ocean front" or advertised as "ocean view" but it did have a small view of the ocean from the inside and a decent view from the immediate balcony, which I appreciated. By the end of the night there were 7 of us on the balcony, drinking beers and enjoying ourselves until late. We slept 3 in the bed, 2 on the small pull-out and 2 on the large pull-out. I slept on the large pull-out and it was equally as comfortable and spacious as a regular bed at a chain hotel. I had a great sleep on it and everyone else had a good sleep on their beds, even the smaller pull-out. On the balcony there is a lot of lawn furniture you can pull together so we were able to hang outside together.

Location is perfect of course. You're in Beach Haven, the beating heart of LBI.

The hotel staff were perfectly average which is perfectly OK to me.

One point deducted for cleanliness. There was a small amount of black ants on our kitchen floor. Honestly they were so few that it didn't bother us. Otherwise the carpet, bathroom, kitchen and all bedding was perfectly clean.

Overall I would stay at the Engleside again and I would recommend it to someone else. I didn't eat at the restaurant but someone I met on the balcony did and they said it was really delicious, first class seafood.
