this motel was one of the worst places i've ever stayed in Yes, it was on the end of the island,but... the room was dirty, no one came to change the bed sheets , towels, garbage..the whole time i was there.. and i didnt stay there for just one day. The maids are supposed to come daily and do that..here they didnt.. what would have happened if i stayed there for a whole week or more??? nothing would have gotten done??? and they have a nerve to leave you an envelope for you to leave them a tip???? And i was there with my kids... think of that. Then they have a bucket for you and everyone else..to use to clean the sand off your feet...eew.. everyone puts their foot in one bucket?? yuck. The fridge.. oh god.. dirt all over it, rust as well.. the handles for the door..off. it hardly worked as well. the top shelf got cold or froze your items..bottom of it stayed very warm .. it took well over an hour for the water bottles to cool down.. unreal. The best part..the dresser for your clothes.. i put my stuff in one drawer.. it wouldnt come out..then i finally got it to come out.. i couldnt get the drawer to go back in. same with other drawer... then i took it out completely to work it in.. the bottom of the drawer was totally out..the bottom was hanging down!!! i told the one guy that worked there.. his comment..yea.. i wil be back to fix it..never did the whole time i was there. ... Now the bathroom.. hope you are not a fat person or large in any way.. u wont fit. there is literally no room in it.. the shower..hits u right in the face.. u cant adjust it. there is no place for the towels to hang.. or the toilet paper. good luck in there. The whole room was super tight.. and mine had 2 queen beds in it. the table we were to eat off.. was very wobbly and dirty. One chair was in the mini closet to make for more room. Here's another good one.. if the people above you take a shower..and you are in the bathroom.. you get wet also..they leak into your shower stall... love it. Now..their idea of continental breakfast... joke. its served outside the office on 3 shelves.. its on the outside..where bugs can get to it. yikes. plus.. when they serve it.. 9am.. dont think its there waiting for you..no.. the woman does it little by little and the toaster.. one side didnt work..and ... i brought my own butter up to use it..other guests were using it thinking it was the motels.. cause no one brought butter out for the guests to use... hellloooo...??? .. .people were standing in line.. on the top deck waiting for just a bagel and some coffe with no milk.. just powder creamer. .. WHEN YOU SPEND MONEY ON A ROOM... YOU When you spend 140.00 or more..or even less on a room.. you expect at least some decent expected things to be there..but not at this place...The outside grills... another joke.. you need to have someone there from the office to light it for you..the ignite buttons were off. good luck trying to cook something when no one is around and if you dont smoke.. you are outta luck. Next year i definitely wont be staying there .. i will find another place for way better service then this place offered. I would love to know how they got voted top 3 motels on the island..

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this review. Lorry’s Island End Motel is sorry that this Guest didn’t have a good experience as we try very hard to give our thousands of Guests an Affordable And Relaxing Vacation. Lorry’s staff and I will use this review to continue to improve Lorry’s as we already invest thousands of dollars every year to make sure that Lorry’s Motel continues to be The Best Hotel Or Motel Value on Long Beach Island.
However, I must set the record straight and I will answer all of the complaints one by one. First, this Guest’s reservation had to go thru me the owner, and the managers checked you in, so you know us. Yet you never talked to the managers or the owner about any of these issues that 95% could have been easily resolved while you were here.
1) “the room was dirty, no one came to change the bed sheets, towels, garbage.. the whole time I was there.. and I didn’t stay for just 1 day. The maids are supposed to come daily and do that.. here they didn’t.
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s staff cleans all rooms after every check-out and puts newly washed sheets from the laundry on our beds. Lorry’s is a Green Motel and we have posted it on our website, the brochures that we send out in the mail, and also posted it in every room – that Lorry’s Motel does not do daily maid service. We have a towel exchange in the office from 11 am – 6 pm and bed sheets can be exchanged also. For everyone’s information, Lorry’s invests the money we save from not having daily maid service and spends that money wisely on many Free Amenities that save our Guests a lot of money making their vacation affordable such as: a Full Size Refrigerator with top freezer, Microwave, BBQ area with 3 gas grills, Free Continental Breakfast, Free Beach Badges, Free Wi-Fi, Free loaner used bicycles, Free boogie boards, Free basketball for the nearby Bay Beach and playground, etc, etc..
2) “they have a bucket for you and everyone else to put their foot in one bucket?? yuck
Lorry’s Response – As we have said before, Lorry’s is a Green Motel and yes we offer our Guests a foot washing tub to rinse the sand off their feet. Also, as an option Lorry’s Motel has a large outside shower and changing area for Guests to rinse their feet off if they don’t want to use the foot washing tub. A number of our Guests have complimented or thanked Lorry’s for the foot washing tub that keeps the sand from being tracked into their rooms and also saves a lot of water on this fragile barrier island.
3) “the fridge.. oh God, dirt all over it, rust as well.. handles for the door..off, it hardly worked as well. The top shelf got cold or froze your items.. bottom of it stayed very warm.. it took well over an hour for the water bottles to cool down.. unreal.
Lorry’s Response – I buy 1 or 2 new Full Size Refrigerators with top freezers every year. If your refrigerator was broken, I still have not had 1 other person after you tell me that that the refrigerator is not working, and we have had some 90 – 100 degree days. As for the handle being off, some of the newer refrigerators do not come with a handle, so this handle did not come off, it was never on the refrigerator. If the refrigerator was dirty you or anyone else should ask the managers to have it cleaned to your satisfaction. Lorry’s staff is great with our Guests and I get many compliments about our staff almost on a daily basis. However, if Lorry’s Motel staff does not respond to your satisfaction, I invite you or anyone else to notify me, the owner. Also, since Lorry’s Island End Motel is so close to the ocean and the bay, the salt air continues to corrode all metal including the refrigerators and we repaint them in the off season.
4) “The best part, the dresser for your clothes”.
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s has over 2,200 Guests per year and dressers and drawers do break, etc. Lorry’s continues to buy new dressers and also fix the dressers.
5) “Now the bathroom..no place for towels to hang, or the toilet paper. the whole room was super tight.. and mine had 2 queen beds in it.”
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s bathrooms were repainted and some were retiled in the off season, and unfortunately some rooms were overlooked to put the towel bar back up. I purchased the towel bars yesterday and we plan to install them as soon as possible. As for the room being super tight, Lorry’s Motel has a large website with 150 pictures and actual pictures of every type of Lorry’s Motel rooms so you can see the entire room before you make a reservation at Lorry’s. The measurements for Lorry’s Queen Rooms with 2 queen beds is 12 feet by 21.5 feet and includes the bathroom 6 feet by 5 feet. These measurements were put on Lorry’s Motel website with Lorry’s room pictures.
6) “The table we were to eat off was wobbly and dirty. One chair was in the mini closet to make for more room.”
Lorry’s Response – As I have stated before, if something was not clean, you should have asked Lorry’s managers or myself the owner to have it cleaned to your satisfaction. If the table was wobbly you should again have brought it to our attention. Yes, we do place 1 chair wisely in the mini-closet to keep it out of the way when not in use.
7) “If the people above you take a shower.. and you are in the bathroom..you get wet also..they leak into your shower stall.”
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s apologizes to this Guest that we had a shower leak and the leak has since been repaired.
8) “Their idea of a Continental Breakfast.. joke. It’s served outside the office on 3 shelves.. it’s on the outside.. where bugs can get in it. yikes. Plus when they serve it.. 9 am.. don’t think it’s there waiting for you.. no.. the woman does it little by little and the toaster.. one side didn’t work.
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s Free Continental Breakfast is served outside our office in a Breakfast Area enclosed on 3 sides with a roof, full of breakfast items on yes, 3 shelves. Yes it is served outside on our 2nd floor deck so our Guests can see both the nearby ocean AND the nearby bay. This person did not actually see bugs in the breakfast area because everything is in containers, or wrapped in bagel wrap. As for “the woman brings it out little by little” – yes it does take a few trips to bring out all the breakfast items we include such as: 9 kinds of bagels, cream cheese, butter, jelly, orange juice, coffee, milk, coffee creamer, sugar, Splenda, Sweet’n Low, tea bags & hot water for tea. About the toaster not working, when I read this review I went and tested the toaster myself and all 4 slots worked. It is possible though that someone turned the 2 control knobs down or off. But again, it is common practice to tell the managers or owner if something is not working so we can make it work or replace it. However, even if the toaster was broken, we have a brand new toaster in stock in case the toaster breaks. Again, why didn’t you bring it to our attention if it wasn’t working properly?
9) “I brought my own butter up to use it.. other Guests were using it thinking it was the motels.. cause no one brought butter out for the guests to use... hello...???
Lorry’s Response – All this Guest had to do was tell the managers or any staff member that the butter needed to be refilled as The Free Continental Breakfast is right next to the office. We stock extra butter in the motel refrigerator and also in my personal refrigerator at my place across the street. So, we were not out of butter, it just needed refilled. Why didn’t you ask the managers to refill the butter?
10) “People were standing in line.. on the top deck waiting for just a bagel and some coffee with no milk.. just powder creamer”.
Lorry’s Response – Our Free Continental Breakfast is very popular with our Guests and that is why there is a line waiting to get our Free breakfast. In a restaurant, the same breakfast costs $5 - $7 per person. This year (2011) we expanded our breakfast from 5 varities of bagels to 9 different kinds (due to suggestions from our Guests) which includes: plain, everything, cinnamon raisin, poppy, sesame, french toast, egg, blueberry & healthy multi grain. As for no milk, with the popularity of our Free breakfast, yes these items need to be refilled continually when they are empty. We are not out of anything as we have back-up everything in our office and Lorry’s refrigerator, plus I stock all the items in my personal refrigerator at my place (across the street) as a double back-up. Also, there is a deli at the nearby beach, so if our 2 back-up stock of items runs out, in an emergency we can get everything quickly from the nearby deli. So, we were not out of milk or any breakfast item. Again, all this Guest had to do was ask the managers to refill the milk or any other breakfast item. Why didn't you ask?
11) “When you spend money on a room.. when you spend $140 or more.. or even less on a room.. you expect at least some decent things to be there.. but not at this place.”
Lorry’s Response – We agree with you that you should expect some decent things at Lorry’s. You forgot to mention that your bathroom at Lorry’s had a beautiful new ceramic tile shower and the walls of your bathroom have new ceramic tile up to chest high, and the rest of the bathroom wall was newly painted. In addition, Lorry’s has lots of decent Free amenities that make Lorry’s Island End Motel The Best Hotel Or Motel Value On Beautiful Long Beach Island. This end of LBI is very narrow and One Of God’s Most Beautiful Beaches is only 200 yards up the street and the bay is only 200 yards behind us, plus the Wildlife Preserve parking lot for the Spectacular 3.5 mile Federal Wildlife Preserve is only 1 street away. In addition, we give Free beach badges (with deposit), Free Wi-Fi, Free used bicycles, Free boogie boards, Free Continental Breakfast, and Full Size Refrigerators with top freezer & Microwave in every room, plus a Courtyard with 3 gas grills. Lorry’s Free amenities can save our Guests $50 - $150 per day per room depending on the amount of people in the room.

Lorry’s Response – For those people that can’t light a grill, Lorry’s staff is happy to light it for them as we give very good service to our Guests. A lot of people do know how to light a grill and don’t need help from Lorry’s managers. The automatic factory ignite buttons were taken off because automatic ignite buttons are not that reliable with continual use and they would easily break and frustrate Lorry’s Guests. So, we took the ignite buttons off. If a Guest does not have matches, they can use one of the ignitors that Lorry’s provides sitting near the grills. In the unlikely event that the managers or owner are not around during daylight hours and there are no igniters provided by Lorry’s nearby, I am sure that a Guest at Lorry’s Motel will give a person some help at the grills since Lorry’s Motel is a very friendly place.
13) “Next year I definitely wont be staying there.. I will find another place for way better service than this place offers.”
Lorry’s Response – I get compliments almost daily on the service by Lorry’s managers and how good Lorry’s managers treat our Guests. I think that all you had to do during your stay at Lorry’s Motel was speak with the managers – and you would have found that 95% of your issues could have been resolved right then. Also, as the owner of Lorry’s I am available in season about 16 hours per day (except Sunday my day off) either in person or by calling Lorry’s Motel number as that number is my cell number. Since I live across the street, I am continually on Lorry’s property as I am a hands on owner.
14) “I would love to know how they got voted top 3 motels on the island”.
Lorry’s Response – Lorry’s has been Voted One Of The Top 3 Motels on Long Beach Island not once, But 6 Times. We give our thousands of Guests An Affordable And Relaxing Vacation in one of God’s Most Beautiful Beaches and Vacation Areas in the United States. We are not a perfect motel, nor will we ever be a perfect motel, but we continually improve Lorry’s Island End Motel every year. We have many Guests that come back year after year and some 2 – 4 times per year or more. I am a hands on owner in my 22nd season at Lorry’s Island End Motel and I put my picture on our website (Meet The Owner) to tell our thousands of Guests from 46 states and 26 countries from around the world, that our staff and myself will make every effort to keep Lorry’s Motel The Best Hotel Or Motel Value On Beautiful Long Beach Island, NJ.
