“two different summer weekend trips at the windward”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

i stayed two long summer weekends in 2013 at the windward: once with my family with 3 little kids under 6 and other family with the same age and number of kids and another time again with my family and my mother and brother in law. each time we had 2 rooms right next to each other on the first floor and had a good time. the location is key: very close to the beach, supermarket, local restaurants and show place. the accomodation is very clean and they have updating and renovated the rooms. the bathrooms are just a little small but you can take advantage of the outdoor shower.
we barbaqued one night as well. the owners are very nice, helpful and friendly.
we are considering to go back summer 2014. great for families with kids and needing a little kitchen in the room.

Room Tip: ask for the different room set ups to pick the best one for your family and look at website picks

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay(s) at the Windward at the Beach. As you discovered, the first floor offers great accommodations for families with children. Happy that you were able to enjoy the outside BBQ and patio, as well as the close proximity of the beach. We are looking forward to your next visit to LBI!

My husband and I along with our 2 children 11 and 8 spent a wonderful few days at the Windward at the end of August. We stayed in room #3 very comfortably and loved having the enclosed porch right outside our door. It is a great place to read when the kids are trying to go to sleep. We were able to eat breakfast and lunch in the room - thanks to the kitchen. The inn is very beachy and Tami made us feel at home.

The location of the Windward could not be better. 1 block to the beach, a couple of blocks to restaurants, nearby mini golf, a nice walk to fantasy island. We only got in our car to head up to the lighthouse. We even got to watch a movie in the park when we were there.

All in all a great family vacation at the beach.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give the Windward at the Beach a review. As you discovered, first floor accommodations are perfect for families with children. And new this last summer are the movies in the park - fun stuff for families just out the door. We look forward to your next stay on beautiful LBI!

I recently stayed here with my family and found the place to be overly musty smelling. Our room ($385 +tax) was on the second floor, there is no AC throughout the Inn other than room units, so its quite hot and humid in hallways. My niece opened the sliding door to the closet which was damp and smelly. I would not store anything in there. Our room had a creepy old door (to the attic?) which reeked of mold.

The pros are proximity to beach, clean beds, nice owners, complimentary coffee and outdoor showers. Would not stay again.

We appreciate your recent review. As relatively new owners of the Windward at the Beach, we are working our way through the house, updating and remodeling. We've done most rooms and room 9 is on the update list for the spring of 2014, with summer visits to a fresh, clean, and updated two room suite. We are surprised that you found the rest of the house hot and humid as the enclosed wrap-around porch gets a nice breeze that filters throughout the house, so much so, that many people leave their AC off except during the infrequent heat wave (which may have coincided with your stay).

We hope you'll revisit the Windward in the future to see all the changes that we have made.

Had a girls weekend in August 13 and had a great time. The owners are incredibly nice and the location is perfect. We really enjoyed the patio tables, grill and outdoor showers. There are also bike racks to store your bike and shelves full of books. We never really got to use the porch because it was too crowded with other guests, but that was just a minor disappointment. We would definitely go back!

We stayed here last year (9/2012) & our room (on top floor) was horrible. I'm thinking they have re-done it by now considering the good reviews here. The bathroom smelled really, really, awful - we think from the rug. The carpet in the bedroom was very dirty. They had a dark plastic area mat on top of part of it & every time you walked hard across it, large clouds of dust came up. I still get the shivers just thinking about it. I wanted to complain, but the owners were very nice & the rest of the establishment seemed clean. A little funky & even stylish! It was just very disappointing that our room was so horrible. Unfortunately I'd never stay here again & I wouldn't recommend it either.

Room Tip: Don't get the top floor!

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at the Windward in September of 2012. Not sure why it has taken a year for you to write about it, but during that year we've been very busy. As new owners we are going systematically through the house, updating rooms with new (and vintage) furnishings, upgrading electrical, and modifying to make your stay a fun, beachy experience. The third floor was redone in May of 2013. Room 11 was modified to sleep up to six, featuring a small room with a full sized bed, flatscreen TV, small refrigerator, microwave; the large room was updated with new windows and ceiling fan to increase airflow, efficient air conditioning, new linens; and the bathroom was updated with new fixtures and furnishing. Room 10 had a redo with a "Heavenly Queen Bed", new linens and furnishings; and the bathroom with its ocean view, got updated as well. The top floor is as stylish and nouveau funky as the rest of the house.

We invite you to come back and revisit the Windward at the Beach. As mentioned, you can't beat the location and service.

I stayed here for 5 nights with my 2 children (ages 6 & 9) in August 2013. We stayed in a room on the first floor for 4 nights and on the second floor for the last night. We had the best time! I really loved the Windward and will return again for sure! The owners are just so nice and have created such a wonderful, welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere. The rooms were very cozy and comfortable. The room on the first floor had a kitchen area and the benefit of being close to the wrap around porch (with books and games) which worked well with young children. The room on the 2nd floor had a view of the ocean, a bigger bathroom (bigger shower) and was more quiet and private as it wasn't off the main porch. We were happy with both locations. We also took advantage of the great outdoor showers, outside patio with table/umbrella, the clothesline for hanging wet beach towels and bathing suits in the back of the property. We’ve been vacationing in LBI every summer for years, but this is the first time we stayed in an inn as opposed to renting a house. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to pack all of the linens, bath towels, sheets, etc. It was such an easy, relaxing vacation. The location is right in the heart of Beach Haven. Across the street from the beach on one side and Bicentennial Park on the other. It’s within walking distance to so many restaurants, shops, the arcade and amusement park. A really great place! I can’t wait to return next summer!

We stayed at The Windward by the Beach for 2 weeks in June. You can't beat the location or the atmosphere. We had everything we needed and more. We were able to save money by not eating out, not using the car, not buying beach badges, nor renting beach chairs and not buying coffee/tea every morning! The owners are the best...if you need them, they are always there to help. They leave you alone and let you use their home as if it were your own. The wrap around porch is wonderful especially on rainy days. Puzzles, games, couches and books galore. The outside showers are marvelous! The beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious! We recommend it highly!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. Sounds like you were able to explore all that Beach Haven and LBI has to offer. Our guests love parking the car and heading out on foot or via bike (rentals just around the corner). Beyond the beach, there's so much to do - or as you said, hunker down on the wrap-around porch for a game of Scrabble of afternoon book. We are looking forward to your next visit at the Windward at the Beach!
