“Spaulding Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Spaulding Inn as part of our honeymoon. The inn is older but was clean and charming its like staying at your grandparents house years ago. We cant say enough about the staff extremely friendly and go out of the way to make you feel welcome. The rooms were older but clean and no TV which was fine with us. The food was excelent and price reasonably. We went on 2 ghost hunts into the carage house our guides were helpful and place my fears at ease even after my wife spoke german on the first floor and seem to get a strong responce from someone. I would go back again even to just unwind and relax its beautiful up there. Its not just for Ghost Hunters but a lovely p[lace to relax.

Room Tip: From what we saw all the rooms are about the same

“Historic property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Some folks said they thought it might be haunted. Pretty quiet when we were there although my husband heard sounds at 2am that sounded like wind through a window sill but it was not windy. Hmmm... Furniture could use a little tiding up. Little bar downstairs had some great live music. Food in restaurant was really tasty. It's a nice place.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room on the first floor - no elevator.

“Fun trip!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Being "Ghost Hunters" fans we decided to visit the Spalding Inn as part of a New England road trip. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The Spalding has the friendliest staff I've ever met, they're eager to chat with you, share pictures and EVPs from past ghost hunting experiences at the Inn, and make you feel at home. The Inn is cozy, though the guest rooms have much to be desired. My hope is that Ghost Hunters fame will bring some revenue to this facility and allow for some updating. We had no paranormal activity, though my imagination coupled with the old radiator/boiler heating system left me with one very poor night of sleep. Also, I think a few upgrades to the continental breakfast might help as well. The 2 Kings Pub has surprisingly good food, and I will daydream about the Seafood Newberg for weeks to come! The surrounding area of Whitefield is quaint and quiet with beautiful views of Mount Washington, but plan to drive at least 20-30 minutes for lunch when the Pub is closed.

“Doomed All Ye Who Enter Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

I was scared out of my mind. Not because of the "ghosts," but because of the filth.

We were first greeted in our room, by a cockroach who was perched upon the soap. We then soon discovered stained bed sheets, dead flies on the floor, and lighting fixtures that either sported dead bulbs, or no light bulbs at all.

The wall paper is bubbling and peeling, the furniture is scratched and ripped. The floor is sticky and gritty. The bathtub struggles to drain. One must stand in a tepid pool of one's own filth.

This place is obviously surviving on their pathetic reputation as "haunted," and does not care at all that their property is rotting away around them.

When we cancelled our second night at the front desk, the employee behind the counter did not seem at all surprised when we informed her of our experience.

In the middle of the night, someone decided it would be "spooky" to limp up and down the hall way, back and forth for about 10 minutes. I know they're trying to sell an "experience" here, but seriously? Do they really expect people to over-look the disgusting factor because of things that go bump in the night?

(OOooh. Footsteps! Guess I'll forget that the sheets look like someone didn't suffer from incontinence as much as they celebrated in it.)

There are so many great places to stay in the White Mountains.
This is not one of them.

“Ghosts or Goblins”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Used Groupon and read reviews so pretty much knew what to expect. The location is very nice with good views and landscaping is very nice. Yes it is older and needs some TLC but the price is right and wanted to try it out as we have stayed up the street at Mountain View. When we got there we needed food and the restaurant was not open but the pub was and filled the need. The draw for some of the guests was the ghost stories and our experience was somewhat minor but duely noted. When we went into our room and closed the door to look around after a seversl seconds I noticed the Do Not Disturb Signd flutter on the door knob and there was no breeze in the room. (A warning of things to come?) The staff is very nice.

Room Tip: No TVs in rooms so bring your computer or tablet. Did not appear to have air conditioners in all ro...
