We ventured to this place in hopes of running into some spirits but no such luck. We booked for 2 nights- Friday and Saturday. I wasn't feeling well, so, we asked about checking out early on Sat. morning (9am). The desk clerk really didn't have an answer as to a fee for checking out early, or the return of the second nights fee. She stated we'd have to get an answer from the manager. Two hrs later the manager came and we were told we could not have a refund, not even for half the the cost of the room, which is their policy. As long as they are able to rebook your room. We put the "do not disturb" sign on the door and left early saturday. That way they couldn't book the room we had paid for. The place could really use some more staff. It seems they are looking but unable to get people. There are not TV's in the rooms, so I found a book in their library and started reading to occupy my time. Had I known this, I guess I would've brought reading material selected by myself. The room walls are paper thin and we got to hear the neighboring room occupants having sex for awhile. The rooms are dated but I knew that. Normally, I wouldn't look under a bed but I dropped my mirror under there and found an empty water bottle and numerous dust bunnies while retrieving my mirror.
The food and dining service were excellent, except for the chicken pot pie. It was more like chicken chowder (without the potatoes and peas) with a flakey biscuit on top of a crock pot. The sandwiches were huge and bulging with meat. The prices quite reasonable!
The views were awesome of the White mountains. The weather incredible, warm pleasant days and cool nights.
The ghost unavailable in our room, did happen to spook some other guests and their story of the noises and such, happening in room 18 of the carriage house were compelling.
If you don't have high expectations and can occupy yourself with a book, conversation, or lap top you will like the relaxed atmosphere. They also have a great lounge in the basement with lots of character.
