Do you remember the movie "The Shining"? This place isn't much of a step up. It's dark and creepy. So far the place seems abandoned and for good reason. It appears to have needed renovations in 1977, which still haven't been done. Plus, it's the summer and WV is a winter resort.
For five nights and over 1k, I expect far better. I couldn't imagine a place like this could exist in such a beautiful area. The bathroom has a large tub, but the shower is about 18 inches square, and came w/ someone's used bar of soap. The smell--musty is a nice way of putting it. The furnishings are filthy. Chairs are dirty and full of holes, something you wouldn't even buy at a Goodwill store. The ceiling in our room has obvious water damage, which could be hidden w/ a well needed coat of paint. Our bed, is just a mattress on a frame, no headboard, nothing.
I'm sure it was a lovely hotel many years ago, but it has been neglected. Even the elevator is creaky. The hallways are barely lit and the lights seem to flicker on and off. There is pretty much no staff around, especially if you come after 5 pm. They just leave your key sitting out on the front desk. And even when you do encounter an employee, they've been pretty much useless. So far no one has said hi and when I finally found someone to speak to, they claimed to have no idea where the ice machine was.
Not a bad place if you have no intention of spending much time in your room...or if you have a thing for early 80s decor. Otherwise, stay at any of the other surrounding properties. The rooms at the Town Center are far nicer and have complete kitchens.
On the plus side, we have a loft area for the kids and our room could sleep 6. You also receive a pass to use all the area recreation.
