“Service is bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Last year we stopped here for dîner during the bike week.2hours and a half later still no food. We left. This year (stuck again to go there) one hour later the food arrives, orders where all mixed up, Did not have some of the drinks we asked. We asked for separate bills but they ignored us. Next year I would rater travel an extra 50 miles than be stuck there.

“Great Waitstaff, poor food / management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

The waitress was fantastic and earned an extra $$ in her tip for being put through more than she should of at the expense of the cook and management. We ordered a simple meal - Steak tips, medium rare. The tips came well done. We were tired and asked that they be replaced. The waitress came back stating they did not have any more and tried offering drinks, other entrée's etc. We declined the offer as we had waited quite some time for the tips. She was then forced to 'pass messages' to us from the manager. I've NEVER had this happen. With the slightest issue with food, a manager ALWAYS makes an appearance. The Waitress was very apologetic and tried to make amends. She was young and did an excellent job, but should never been put in a position to appease a customer - that's managements job - one of the jobs they get paid for. We won't be returning. The sad part is, a hotel guest at the Snowy Owl (where we had an EXCELLENT experience) had recommended a different eatery. Should have listened. Katelyn, our waitress did a superb job - she might want to think about finding a different place to work where she is appreciated more.

I’m sorry that you’re experience with our establishment did not meet you’re standards. I’m pleased to hear that Kate was a good server. We have been very busy trying to make all areas of our restaurant run smoothly as we are adjusting to new staff and a new menu. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the feedback. I hope you can give us another chance.

“Great group dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

We booked a private function at The Lantern with a group of 18 people. Good food, good service, great bar, and beautiful venue/space. The Lantern is definitely at the top of my list for dining options in the Waterville Valley area. We'll be booking our group dinner there again next year and I would happily dine there again with my family. Thank you, Woody and team, for a great meal and a wonderful experience!

For a bit of background and more detail, I connected with head chef Mike "Woody" Woodman several weeks in advance of our trip and he was very helpful in planning the menu and was transparent with pricing the event. Our group dined at the Lantern on late-ski season Thursday night. We started with a round of outstanding cocktails that were expertly crafted by the head bartender. Dinner was very good -- a buffet of baked fish, grilled veggies, pasta primavera, soup, mixed green salad, and fresh bread. Every course was fresh, tasty, and not over-cooked (a common issues with any buffet meal).

We're so glad to hear you enjoyed it. Woody has been an amazing head chef. He and his staff work hard to provide a memorable dining experience and it's great to hear that straight from our guests. Thanks for sharing and we hope to see you again soon.

“LOVE the Lantern at Waterville!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

Excellent spot! We were a party of 10 with a reservation and our table was ready right on time. Great vibe in the restaurant. Friendly, experienced service. Food was hot and served in a timely manner. Some nice kids selections as well as adult options. Beautiful, fresh salads. Delicious burgers. We enjoyed grilled pork chop and chicken pot pie the most. Fish (Haddock I believe) was fresh as were the beautiful mix of veggies served with it. Completed the meal with a sampling of desserts. Loved it!

“Try the Duck”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

We had a wonderful dinner with kids at one table and adults at the other. Great view into a winter wonderland in an attractive, fun atmosphere with high ceilings and bright windows. I had the duck with a very tasty orange glaze. It was a generous portion and cooked to perfection. Rolls were warm - loved it!
