We are local to the area and have eaten at nearly all the seafood restaurants in the seacoast. Many of them are geared to tourists, who may pay high prices for mediocre products.
There is no excuse in this area for less than perfect seafood. I've had fried clams here dozens of times---and without a doubt they are the best in the area. Each time they were small, sweet and crispy---just perfect. No need for tartar sauce--just add a little salt and enjoy.
My partner has tried oysters, smelt, haddock and lobster-----and enjoyed each meal. The chowder is average, but it arrives hot and thick--yes, some may consider it bland, but I am a purist as far a chowder is concerned and don't care for tarragon or other strong seasonings in my chowder. We just visited a restaurant in Bar Harbor and the chowder actually had garlic in it---that is a crime to mess up chowder with garlic. It drowns the mild flavor of the fish or clams.
So enjoy this restaurant for what is is---a place to eat fresh seafood with a side of fries----nothing fancy.
