The Governor's Inn is the worst B&B/Historical Inn we have ever stayed in (out of ~70).
There was a noisy wedding reception when we arrived, so instead of the King bed room in the main house for $98/night (which had been recently vacated) we selected a less desirable room with 2 twin beds in the adjacent Georgian Colonial building for $138/night.
The common areas of the Colonial building had the air of a once elegant place which had suffered neglect. One room appeared to be in recovery from an event (I assumed the wedding) and contained a mass of disarrayed chairs some of which were covered and others which had the covers removed in tossed in a pile. I assumed it was a work in progress, but it was in the same state the following day.
We discovered our room had a roll-away bed in the middle of it. We rolled it out into the hallway and informed the desk staff about what we had done. They obviously didn't care about it since it was still in the hallway the next day.
Like the common areas, the room had the look of neglect. The curtain rod was bent, one of the handles on the dresser was broken and hanging, and there were minor stains on the furniture, walls and floor. When I went to bed I discovered that it had been made improperly so that the bottom bedsheet didn't reach to the end of the bed. When I pulled the sheet down to fix it, I discovered a ripped and stained mattress cover beneath it and a thick layer of dust under the bed.
During the night the phone in the room woke us up at 11PM and 12AM after which I disconnected it.
The tub/shower was a nightmare. The shower was some contraption that someone (obviously not a plumber) had tried to install. The shower nozzle was loose and had a tendency to fall over to the side. The entire tub was encircled with a thick tarp-like shower curtain, and you had to step out of the tub and go around to adjust the water temperature since the faucets were inaccessible from inside. The shower curtain (and lack of drain plug) made taking a bath impossible, but showering was dangerous because the tub had an extremely rounded bottom. In CA that tub would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
As we checked out, I expressed my displeasure with the state of the room and the nighttime phone calls. The manager just offered excuses and after I requested a discount, he grudgingly agreed to take a whopping $10 off the bill.
