“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Checked in for a girls weekend and had an awesome time. Called ahead to request a rollaway and arrived to find they upgraded us instead which was very much appreciated. Spent the second night in the lounge watching the game with the best bartender. Conrad never missed a beat, grabbed us whatever we needed and went above and beyond. Front desk supervisor at check out was superb and helped us out with our bill though it was my own error. Great staff! Would definitely return.

The place is basically very ordinary - average in decor and amenities .
Perhaps the pool is its saving grace besides lovely landscaping .
Food is not good-service is slow.
Hours for restaurant are very limited-
(closed Sunday night) ( breakfast over at 10 AM!)

Australian guests who we met were extremely disappointed.

Front desk staff unfriendly and not helpful.( weekend)

Priced too high but rated three stars on Expedia-understood!
Weekend front desk personnel unfriendly and not helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms are not the problem-it appears to be the attitude of weekend desk staff. Monday AM staff was...

First, the positive (and there's only one): the hotel personnel are pleasant. Not always helpful, but nice.

Onto why you don't want to stay here . . .

The hotel is atop I-95. If you're in a front room, you hear traffic all night long. Unless you live on top of a highway at home, you won't sleep.

The beds are horrible. I'm not one to complain about hotel beds b/c they are hotel beds and if you're not paying for a Ritz, you can't expect tremendous quality. My bed was so uncomfortable that not only did I have trouble sleeping (in addition to the traffic) but I had a terrible backache for days.

The bugs. There were small insects flying around my room. When trying to work at the desk, the bugs were all over the light and I spent half my time trying to keep them out of my drinking glass. I reported it in the evening. In the morning, when I again mentioned it, there was no record of my complaint the night before.

The decor is worse than dated. As others have said, it looks dingy. There has been some effort to upgrade the bathrooms but that's about it. It's dark and dreary and uninviting.

The air conditioning/heating unit is incredibly loud. So, if you can sleep through the bed and traffic noise, you'll be awakened every time the unit turns on.

Breakfast isn't free, even for Marriott Platinum members. Food is ok and at $10.85, the breakfast buffet is acceptable, if not special. Also, for coffee drinkers, coffee isn't available for free in the lobby -- you have to buy it at breakfast or pay at Starbucks.

The hotel is a 5-minute drive (definitely NOT walking distance) from downtown Portsmouth, so that's convenient for dinner, shopping, etc.

I stayed at another Courtyard the following night -- what a difference! Better quality rooms -- an entirely different -- and better -- experience.

This hotel is not acceptable at any price and, for the price, which wasn't insignificant, it was money NOT well spent. There's a reason it's ranked 15/16 (something I failed to check before I booked). Stay elsewhere!

Room Tip: NOT fronting I-95.

We recently stayed here as we wanted to "upgrade" from the motel style places in the area. Checkin was very quick & lobby is very inviting. Our room on the top floor was quiet..looked like it may have been recently remodeled with a great fridge microwave coffee area. Fitness room was small but clean & variety of equipment..indoor pool was a plus. Not far from downtown or shopping on other side of Portsmouth. Breakfast cost additional but front desk recommended a small coffee shop in downtown that was delicious & friendly service.Overall wonderful stay great staff great room at a reasonable price..highly recommended !

We arrived the Courtyard late while traveling to the airport and as always was very pleased by the Marriott touch. The gentleman at the desk was very friendly. The room was very nice and the ac worked really well which is sometimes unusual for a hotel. The bed was very comfy. The entire place was very clean and all set up for Sunday football; wish we could have stayed for the game!

stuffy, moldy rooms. staff not friendly or good listeners. good for being close to highway, but better hotels are closer to downtown Portsmouth. bad breakfast. nothing for free/included, which for the rate it should be. rooms not very clean. don't bother.

A bit disappointed. Booked hotel weeks ago. No upper floor room available....no Marriott requests acknowledged. Spots on sheets. Tried calling room service several times this morning and they kept hanging up!:-( Positive note: Front desk staff was very friendly and informative.
