“Wonderful Inn wrapped around a beautiful city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We spent 4 nights at the Ale House--it was fantastic--impecable taste, fresh and clean, very well appointed and the building itself--so cool. This was a home run. Everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. Rain/sun/snow or rain--no problem. The staff is warm and friendly--they make an effort to take care of you no matter the need: restaurant recommendations, entertainment reservations, pubs/brewerys, personal items, etc. Scott, the manager, was the icing on the cake--he wanted to be sure that we knew how to get everywhere, if his recommendations were good, if we needed add'l help, etc. Scott's very warm personality and ability to simply chat, visit and laugh with guests truly exuded what a charming Inn should be---we highly recommend the Ale House and hope to return.

Beautifully maintained inn in Portsmouth, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly, they even offer a complimentary locally brewed beer at check-in. This inn is definitely a unique experience, and Portsmouth is an extremely underrated destination. The inn itself is quite clean and comfortable. Would gladly stay here again.

All the little details of how nice this place is would be difficult to recount, but in my overnight stay I just kept noticing more pleasant touches as the time passed. The selection of books around the room, the art on the walls, the user friendly and modern fixtures, the shades, the fact that everything was immaculate, the iPad for your use... etc, etc, etc. Where else do you check in and are presented with bottles of local craft beer at the desk? Where?! The rooms are cozy, well lit, and quiet. The overall feeling and atmosphere of this little gem impressed me. There are a number of quality restaurants and pubs all within a stone's throw and walking distance of the front door. Parks and shops as well, and you are staying right in the middle of it all. Talking with the manager, I was told how they really worked at a plan for providing such a good venue. Guess what? They're plan is working. Don't hesitate about the Ale House Inn as it doesn't get much better than this for a nice intimate place to recharge your batteries.

Room Tip: They are all good.

My husband and I recently had a chance to get out of town for the night without the kids. We had never been to Portsmouth before but had wanted to come and check out the area to do some shopping and dining. The ale house inn was absolutely perfect! Loved the actual inn, it was beautifully decorated and comfortable. Scott greeted us and gave us perfect restaurant reccomendations and directions, he was very warm and made us feel very welcome. Everywhere we wanted to go was easily accessible on foot, even through a downpour ( thanks to the nice umbrella provided in the room) we had a great night, appetizers at ri ra, italian dinner at Massimo, followed by drinks and some music at the press room. We even took in a burger late night at gilleys, which even on this random Tuesday night in February was jamming and quite the experience. Next day we shopped around and had an amazing breakfast at the friendly toast. All in all, great time, loved Portsmouth and the ale house inn. Can't wait to go back!

We loved this Inn so much that we found ourselves not wanting to venture out of our room. We ordered pizza. We revelled in it. Comfortable beds, excellent room, an iPad to play with. Absolutely relaxing.

Also- the service was so good. There was a minor snag and they worked with us right away. excellent service.

I just wish I lived closer to stay again!

This was my second time staying at the Ale House in and both times have been great! The location is perfect to walk restaurants (Portsmouth Brewing, Popovers on the Square, Agave etc), shops and bars. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Overall a great place to stay!

We were looking for a place for a few days in Portsmouth and after seeing the amazing reviews we picked the Ale House Inn. So glad we did! They (we talked to scott mostly!) are so welcoming and accommodating, and we really felt at home. Recommendations of restaurants and places to go were wonderful, and everything was very close by. It was also such a great touch to have the iPad in the room with all restaurants/ activities preloaded. Can't wait to come back in summertime!!!!
