“The Ale House Inn is the hidden gem of Portsmouth.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the inn for our "baby moon" recently. We had an absolutely wonderful time. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated in a modern yet simple style. The owner, Scott, was very friendly and extremely helpful. He booked a pedicure for me at a great local spa and was available whenever we needed anything. The inn does not serve breakfast but is right in the heart of downtown, and all of the delicious Portsmouth restaurants are within walking distance. The common area was always stocked with fresh fruit and snacks, and the room was kept stocked with a variety of coffee and tea for the keurig and bottled water. We had requested cupcakes for our room, and they were beautifully displayed when we arrived and fresh from a local bakery-so delicious. We have only positive things to say about the Ale House Inn. It is a great modern alternative to a traditional bed and breakfast, and we will definitly be returning.

We went on our first annual adults only weekend and picked Portsmouth as our first stop for this 4 times a year night away. A friend found the Ale House Inn and booked the rooms. It was absolutely gorgeous. They paid attention to every single detail. From the decor to the beer upon arrival. Beautiful. Pleasant, friendly staff...gorgeous rooms...great decorations....love it! Can't wait to come back! Thank you for having us!

Room Tip: The cozy queen was perfectly sized.

My partner and I were up for a week last fall and wanted to stay right in town. The location was perfect and the business is locally owned. The owners and staff were wonderful. Scott was especially helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the king room.

I was surprised by my wife this past weekend with an impromptu “getaway” to the great city of Portsmouth. While we have cloudy memories of a few past visits, I quickly realized this city needs a lot more of our attention. We had a blast. The weather was great, the food at Cava and Kitchen 106 was some of the best we’ve ever tasted…..but, by far, the highlight was our stay at the Ale House Inn. We’ve stayed in Boutique hotels all over the country and this rates right at the top. Scott and his team do a fantastic job of making you feel welcome from Jump Street. Their focus is to make sure you have the most enjoyable and relaxing time possible. A couple things to note when you chose the Ale House Inn: You will eat, you will drink, and you will sleep in the most comfortable bed ever. So make sure you visit Portsmouth, and when you do, visit the crew at the Ale House Inn. They’ll take care of you.

We are a couple that just spent 2 nights there as a quick mini-getaway. From the moment we set up the reservation online, we knew we were in good hands: we received quick, cheerful and very detailed emails with directions and all the information we needed to arrive and check in.
When we arrived, Abby, the front desk manager was the sweetest, kindest and efficient person ever, making the check in process quick and friendly. The room was super clean, incredibly well appointed, decorated in a very tasteful manner and full of little clever touches and attention to detail. We met Scott, one of the owner/managers the next morning and, once again, he was super nice, helpful and welcoming. He offered many thoughtful and excellent recommendations of things to do and places to eat and drink. We truly felt like we made a new friend. Overall the whole experience was outstanding and we are already planning our next mini-getaway there. A+++

Room Tip: They all seemed very nice, but we had Room 6 which was on a corner at the end of the hall and had 2...

Great location just outside the square. Close to the water, right near the park. Cozy, quiet, friendly.

We had a great relaxing time in Portsmouth during a very cold weekend. The Ale House was so great- perfect location, affordable, clean, beds sooo comfortable, and Scott was engaging and helpful. We are from Cape Cod and felt our experience resembled the quaintness of Provincetown and other little towns on the Cape. The Ale House is unique and not like all the "chain" hotels. We will be back and would highly recommend it to others. You can walk everywhere and eat, drink, and shop! Had a great time. Thanks Scott and Portsmouth.
