I have stayed at this hotel a few times as I find myself visiting the Portsmouth area a lot and cannot always find the money to stay downtown (which I would prefer to do!). On other occasions we have stayed here we have had problems with spiders and ants in the room, noise from kids partying, and other such minor inconveniences.

This last time the hotel seems to have improved. It looks like they may be doing some rennovations to the building. The bathroom stands out the most for me with new tiles on the floor, new counter tops and the bath looks like it may have been resurfaced. The room on the whole was clean and cozy but the heat was hard to operate making it too hot in the room.

The hotel staff were helpful on most occasions with one exception. I was treated to quite rudely by who I think was a manager when I went to the desk looking for a fork I could use to eat my lunch in my room. The manager snarled a negative reply at me, but the other woman who was at the desk at the same time graciously went and found me some plasticware I could use. I was a little surprised at the managers unwillingness to help in what seemed to me to be a reasonable request.

One thing to stay away from is the continental breakfast. It was just awful with overripe bananas, moldy oranges, and pre- packaged muffins. They were also all out of coffee by 9:00 am and were not making any more. Do yourself a favor and either pack your own breakfast items or go someplace else for breakfast!

We just needed a place to rest and break up our 14 hour drive home from vacation. It was not a restful place. Our room was across from the laundry and they insisted on propping the laundry room door open 24/7. Some rooms in our hall had their numbers held on the door with duct tape. Our room was OK but the rug needed cleaning. The hallway from the lobby to our room was very very dirty and actually smelled. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the pool but had to bring the towels from our room because there were no clean towels at the pool.

Nothing amazingly spectacular with this hotel. We stayed in the main building which is slightly newer and had a room with a small balcony overlooking the courtyard and parking lot. All in all, it was a comfortable nights sleep. The two pools [one inside, one out], as well as the hot tub was a nice touch. There is free internet in the lobby at a computer, which was also quite conveinent, however oftentimes busy at peak hours.
Beds were nothing spectacular.
Lots and lots of TV Channels.
ONLY DOWNSIDE: The showers were either scalding hot or freezing cold. I was unable to find a happy medium.

I would stay at the hotel again only if my travels took myself to Portsmouth, I would not come here out of choice for a vacation.

One night stay at the Best Western was nice. Hotel has an entire 6 story suite wing. This is a nice Best Western! Hotel was sold out of small rooms, so I "sprang" for a suite. It was still $20 cheaper than Courtyard down the street. Kids loved it. We did not use everything, but it had full size fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, Jacuzzi tub ... Very clean, very friendly staff. Nice place for one or more nights. Resturant is open 24 hrs with good food.
