“Winter in New Hampshire”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2009

My work has taken me to several locations throughout the USA. I have stayed at numerous hotels and none of them compare to the hospitality that I received this winter at the Hampton Inn in Portsmouth, NH. All of the staff, from the folks in houskeeping & maintainence on up to the managers and their assistants, provided me and my co-workers with a most pleasurable stay. My colleagues & I were originally resigned to stay at a hotel verses an efficiency or suite that we were more accustomed to staying in on long visits. Once we met the staff and secured our accomodations, we found that the folks at Hampton Inn were dedicated to making us feel at home. Our rooms had ample space and the jacuzzi was an added bonus on the days that we were working out in the snow. Although we endured a lengthy renovation during our 4 month stay, that included moving a few times, we were still treated very well by the staff and management as they did their very best to shield us from the renovations. We met many other patrons who had made this hotel their favorite choice during their travels as well. It has been my pleasure to have weathered my winter here at the Hampton Inn in Portsmouth, NH and I look forward to returning here in the near future to revisit all of the new friends I have made. Best Travels, JB

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend in February. They allowed us to bring our dog (it was one of the only ones in that area that allowed pets). I was concerned that they would put us in a smelly "dog only" room, but quite the opposite. We had a regular room with a king bed and a jacuzzi tub.

The hotel was/in still under renovation. It looks like they are working on one part of the floor and the occupied rooms are on the other. We had no problem with noise. They stopped work early in the evening so there were no problems. If you might be concerned, ask if the construction is still ongoing.

The staff was great. Very friendly. They offered happy hour in the lobby every day from 5-7. Free drinks and a tiny bit of food. We were able to bring our dog to the party! Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Hot dishes, cereals, breads, drinks, quite nice.

There was an indoor pool and hot tub (lots of kids running around).

Since it was the only place in town that allowed pets, there was an abundance of dogs. One person actually asked me if there was a dog show taking place. But, the place was still clean and the pets didn't seem to be an issue.

The location is near all the shopping and restaurants (the chain stores of course) and close to the outlet stores. I see others said the location was out of the way but I don't see how that could be avoided. Zoning looks to have gone a little crazy in this town and nothing is really within walking distance unless you are on the Main Street in Portsmouth.

It's close to the major roads and within a short drive of most attractions, so I don't think the location was that bad.

One drawback, no fridge in the room. That would have been nice.

I would definately stay there again and recommend it to families, single travelers and couples.

My wife stayed here as part of our New England trip. Don't be put off by the location which is in the middle of a retail park outside town. What nobody has nentioned is that the hotel has a shuttle bus (perhaps it is a new service) which will take and collect you anywher within 5 miles. This covers downtown Portsmouth and my wife and I were very grateful to be taken to a restaurant in town and collected as it was a filthy night with torrential rain.
The rooms are spacious - we had two double beds.- clean and comfortable and a large bathroom
The hotel also coped with a power cut as they have a generator and still provided a hot breakfast
One of the best hotels we stayed in on our tour

Typical Hampton Inn layout. Hotel will need a renovation soon. Nothing really bad just worn. My biggest complaint was the lack of a fridge and microwave.

I am a big fan of Hampton Inn hotels so I figured we would be safe booking this one. It is very out of the way and not anywhere near downtown Portsmouth which was a bit disappointing. The hotel lobby smelled strongly of mold or mildew but the front desk was very friendly and let us check in early which was very nice. Our room was clean, very basic (no closet), no frills and smelled heavily of smoke even though it was a non smoking room. The only good things about the room were the signature Hampton Inn comfortable bed and bedding and the nice HD plasma screen TV with cable. Had I seen this place before we booked it, I would have run for the hills. You are better off booking another chain hotel in the area. Also, we were not informed that there was a big construction area just next door :( Not worth 200 dollars a night at all!

An OK facility a bit hard to find off the main street in a developing shopping area. Near the outlet mall at Kittery. Nice breakfast.
Well located for day trip along the coast through Maine.

We were trying to find a place in Kittery Maine, but the few hotels there were full. Luckily this Hampton Inn still had room and was only 10 minutes away. It was a little hard to locate, as it's set well back off of an unlit side road, near a construction site for a future mall.

Clean room, nice indoor pool and hot tub, friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely plan on staying here next time we travel down the coast.
