“enjoyed the club level”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Location is perfect, walking distance to shops and restaurants by the harbor . I don' t think you can expect a view from any room .
+We stayed at the club level, which allows you to enjoy the lounge with free breakfast , internet with a printer , and late afternoon snacks . The staff was helpful . Valet parking was ok ( 18$) +.Free wi-fi .
-It's true that the hotel needs some renovation, like in the elevators .
-The bed was too soft .
So, I would say it was a little bit too expensive for this hotel , as 3 nights costed almost 1000$ .

The rooms are a large and inviting. The check in staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Many restaurants near by. Portsmouth has much to see and explore and this hotel lets you walk to everything easily.

This is a nice looking hotel, clean with an overall friendly staff. We had a few glitches in the check-in, like opening the door to find the room was already occupied. Boy were those folks surprised. The room itself was satisfactory but nothing special, the bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was quite small and a bit of a turn off. There is nothing about looking toward the water and seeing a pile of metal or salt mountains that I would really call a great view, but that is industry and nothing the hotel can really do about that. The fitness room was average but adequate with plenty of towels, water and workout equipment. The location is very convenient to the interstate and to Marketplace Square where all the shops and restaurants were located. You can walk most places easily. Internet is free, which I appreciate, but parking is $15 per day across the street or $18 with valet on site. We had a great time in Portsmouth, learning the history and enjoying the atmosphere, but the Sheraton did not add nor take away much from the experience.

Dear Greg H,

Thanks for your review! While we are very pleased you enjoyed Portsmouth, we are very sorry to hear that our team didn't stand out. We pride ourselves on exceptional service and we are disappointed to hear it was just okay. We hope the location and comfort are enough to bring you back again so your next visit will be memorable both for the wonderful city and for the exceptional treatment you received at Sheraton Portsmouth.

Warmest Regards,

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. REALLY nice staff. Carpets are stained, paint is chipping. Paint used to hide water stains in bathroom. Walls are thin, i could hear the guy in the next room gargling this morning. LOL.. Sorry Sheraton, for 239 a night, you need to fix this place up! I ordered the continental breakfast, the croissants are cold. :0(

Dear Suzr9039,

Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased that our team made such a great impression. We are sorry to hear that the facilities didn't meet your expectations. We recently finished a room renovation on our third floor and are hoping to begin another update in the near future.

We would be very thankful if you would be willing to give us another try next time you are in town. You can contact our Director of Revenue, Suzanne at 603-559-2616 and she'll be happy to assist with your reservation and ensure you are assigned to one of our newly renovated rooms.

Thank you for your feedback.

With warmth,
Sheraton Portsmouth

My husband and I attended a conference the weekend of August 23-25, 2013 which was held at the Sheraton "Harborside" Hotel. I have to say that the staff at the hotel are very polite and friendly. Our room was nothing special just a standard room which could use a little updating. What we were finding when talking to other guests in our party was that there wasn't much of a "harborside" view. One view from the lounge will give you a mountain of scrap metal next to a huge salt pile. Finding much of a waterview from your room is hard to come by. The hotel is in a great location, which makes walking to the many shops and restaurants easy.

As for parking; when we arrived our car was handed over to the valet attendant. It was parked in their lower level parking garage. We checked out on Saturday night and made our way back to Connecticut. The next morning we were shocked to see numerous scratches and missing paint on the front drivers side of the car. These scratches were not there when we left for our trip on Thursday. I called the General Manager and was directed to his voicemail. That evening I was contacted by Jonah who is in charge of the valet service. He assured me that he would look into this. Our next conversation consisted of him informing me that since we left the property without mentioning this, there was nothing he could do. It is a little difficult to notice the damage when you leave at 10:00 pm and its dark outside. I am very disappointed in this outcome. Valet takes a scratchless vehicle and returns a damaged one. The body shop has confirmed that the direction of the scratches are consistent with a sharp turn. I would guess backing into a parking spot. The valet service will accept no responsibility for this. If you value your vehicle stay away from the valet. They have self parking located next to the hotel. The conference will be held again in Portsmouth next year and I will strongly suggest that it is NOT held at the Sheraton!

We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel. The location is great for walking anywhere in town. The room was nice but the hotel needs a little TLC, just some paint and general update. We were on the club floor which had a nice breakfast as part of the room rate. The staff was friendly and helpful too.

Stayed here for one night at the end of June on the way to Maine. I used SPG points, so the night was free. Parking on the street will save you some money, and is free after business hours. This can be an expensive hotel, so to get it for free is a great deal. Property was modern and clean, and Portsmouth is a great city to spend some time.
