“A Magical Wedding Thanks to a Beautiful Property & Dedicated Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

My wife and I were married at Home Hill inn in late June of this year. The inn and surrounding property is gorgeous and, after having visited a number of possible venues in the area, we knew Home Hill Inn would be the perfect spot for our ceremony and reception.

We had a few hiccups with management and chef changes over the year long period preceding our wedding, but the team that ultimately took over made it very clear that they were completely dedicated to helping us create the perfect wedding weekend we had hoped for. Chef Peter Varkonyi's passion for his work was evident from the start, and he worked with us to create a menu that was absolutely delicious and perfectly tailored to the atmosphere of our big day. Mary, Danielle and everyone else were so helpful and attentive to every detail of the wedding weekend.

We could go on and on about how incredibly happy we were with every aspect of our wedding weekend - the rooms, grounds, food, service from the staff, etc. It was simply wonderful, and we look forward to going back to Home Hill Inn in the years to come to relax, enjoy the great food and reminisce. With the current staff in place, we could not give a higher endorsement to Home Hill Inn as a wedding venue.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Maxfield Parrish room.

The Inn is a handsome building in pleasant rural surroundings. The grounds, inn and rooms have a degree of rustic charm. The rooms could use a little attention to amenities, like, say, a clock, and maybe a radio. I found the mattress super uncomfortable and which made sleep illusive, despite the lovely atmosphere.

Breakfast is provided and, while delicious, is sort of hit or miss in terms of when you get service.

We stayed here for a weekend and while the rooms and grounds are nice, they've missed some important details.

For one, the management seems like they can be surly. The rest of the staff seems very nice and helpful, even getting us some different pillows for our bed based on our preferences.

The historic nature of the main house is enjoyable. Decor is quite nice, but things like really poor water pressure and a sewer truck pumping in the AM doesn't fit the level of the grounds and building. When we asked for toast with breakfast, the manager looked at us quizzically and said they don't have toast when they have waffles. Strange policy, you'd agree?

I understand they've "worked out some issues" and that the new management thinks very highly of themselves, but I don't think they understand that Dartmouth folks tend to be more about genuine quality and less about haute cuisine. The management may want to sincerely evaluate their abilities and analyze their weaknesses. That, and serve toast with breakfast.

We agree with the previous reviewers. We felt like royalty staying here. It's very impressive looking, without being pretentious.

The grounds are amazing...many acres with horses grazing, private in-ground pool, clay tennis court, and a small fitness center.

The innkeepers, check-in staff, and restaurant staff were great and helpful. Everyone was down to earth, with a vibe that was classy yet relaxed...not stuffy at all.

The rooms are absolutely gorgeous and immaculate (no tvs in the room, but there was one in the common area). The room was super quiet, with individually controlled central air (not a window ac like some older b&bs). The common areas are spacious. There is a nice bar, the small breakfast room was sunny and bright, and the dining room was large and impressive, with high ceilings.

Breakfast was great and made especially for us. Dinner was equally tasty and made for a memorable evening. There are complimentary soft drinks available 24 hours a day in the common area.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat. I almost didn't want to write this review, because it truly is a hidden gem!

The whole family spent the weekend at Home Hill Inn. The wedding and reception were at the Inn, too. We felt like royalty the whole time. The entire staff treated everyone like they were the most important visitor they had ever had. We would recommend Home Hill Inn to anyone without reservation.

My husband and I stayed here last Friday night. What a great find. Lovely staff, clean, beautiful room and scrumptious food. The chef is only 22 years old and he cooked us a meal that was unforgettable. We plan to go back in the winter for snowshoeing. Can't wait. Leslie Loomis

Beautiful old Inn ...everything we were looking for....peace and quiet, fabulous food, beautiful setting, swimming, lovely clay tennis court, gardens, horses grazing in the fields...what a great place for a family reunion or a wedding. We will be back!
