Doug and Janet's B&B has 55 acres so in one weekend my boyfriend and I couldn't appreciate everything, but this is what we did appreciate: historic, well-preserved, beautifully-kept house with tasteful period furnishings and a calm rural setting. Doug's relaxed friendliness and AMAZING blueberry pancakes with Grade A maple syrup that didn't compete with the blueberry flavor. Fruit from their farm with a fresh dairy topping. Tallie the friendly well-behaved Jack Russell Terrier. Shiny-coated horses that came trotting over the hill to take a look at you as you walked by. Lying out in the field at night and looking at the stars. Enjoying the pond (really a small lake) from the B&B's own private dock; if we had more time we would've loved to take the canoe out for a spin. Comfy full-size bed in the Weaving Room, smallest of the three but charming, intelligently organized -- terrific books and magazines on bedside tables and in the little cupboard built into the wall. Nice balsam fir potpourri cushions and lots of airing out mitigated the slight mustiness that a house over two hundred years old will inevitably have. Beautifully renovated kitchen that respects the age of the house. Peaceful, gracious, pleasant place; so glad I found it.
