“Very nice hotel with friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

The hotel was nice, indoor pool & outdoor pool, a small game room & hiking trails... The Room was one of a standard hotel however they did not have an Iron or Ironing board available.

A group of friends on a roadtrip - seven of us - booked this place before we arrived in New England and couldn't believe the low price. Since it was off season, just before the leaves turned, the rooms were amazingly cheap! We couldn't believe the price so were well prepared for something downmarket....and were pleasantly surprised.

This is definitely a family resort, with good swimming pool (with a deep end!), hot tub and mini golf. If you want the waterpark however, you'll have to go to the other Red Jacket Resort in North Conway.

Rooms were clean, spacious and staff were courteous. Location was excellent, however anything in North Conway is close by. Thumbs up.

We especially enjoy hearing from our International guests - thank you for your review. A brief reminder to those that may stay at the Fox Ridge Resort - Guests staying there have full access to the Kahuna Laguna water park at the same rates as guests of the Red Jacket Mountain View. During the Summer months we even offer a free shuttle between resorts (which are only 1/2 mile apart). Please visit again the next time you travel "across the pond".

First the good. All of the people at the resort were very friendly and courteous. The grounds were well maintained with lots of beautiful flowers. It appears to be OK for families with small children. They have a playground and mini golf, although the mini golf is really lame. Overall the resort looks like it is very old, but well maintained.

We has a room with a kingsize bed. It was adequate, but for the price I had expected much better. The bathorrom was very small and the sink was outsideof the bathroom. There were shelves for towels by the sink but no towel rack. There was a small table in the room but the lights were nowhere near the table so if you wanted to read there you had to open the curtains to get enough light, assuming it was daytime. The floor boards in the room above us creaked when people were walking around. 2 of the days we stayed there were children in the room above us and they were running around a lot.

They advertise a heated indoor pool, but it was not heated. It was actually pretty cold. The pool and the whirlpool were pretty dirty looking but appeared to have adequate sanitizer (chlorine?). It was a little too cool to take advantage of the outdoor pool but the paint was peeling in the pool anyway.

They also advertise tennis courts which we had planned on using. There are 3 courts, well down the hill from the rooms. All 3 of the courts had big cracks in them. 2 of them did not have a net and grass groing out of the cracks. Obviously they had not been ised in a very long time. Besides the cracks in the one that did have a net there was dirt, pine needles, and leaves all over the court.

We stayed 4 nights and pre-paid for breakfasts. 2 of the days we were able to order from the menu and the other 2 days they had a buffet. Overall the breakfasts were pretty good, but all of the items in the buffet on Sunday were cold.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay. I see there was some items you liked and some items that did not meet your expectations.

The indoor pool is heated to 82 degreesand is our most used amenity, something that is very important to us. We receive numerous reviews on it's outstanding condition and cleanliness.

This year because of a drop in demand for tennis we opted to close two of the three tennis courts and will be removing them this winter. The one open court is is surrounded by tall pines and oak trees and in the fall we must make a better effort to keep it clear.

We have a simple nine hole mini-golf course, kids love it and the price is right, it is free and very popular.

The Fox Ridge was built in 1979, surrounded by 30 acres of forest and lawns it offers a unique setting for a hotel in North Conway. We have an on going program in place for renovations and improvements. This year we totally renovated all hallways and entrances.

We plan on maintaining our reputaion for hospitality for many years to come.

We spent this past Friday – Tuesday at Fox Ridge with my wife and two children, a 4yr old and 3 yr old. Fox Ridge was a very nice family resort. Nothing fancy, but perfect for a family vacation. We spent four nights in one of the Alcove rooms (main room with two queen beds and a separate room with two twin beds and a small TV). Room was very clean with a great view. Wished it had a microwave, but other than that, it was certainly adequate. It was a little pricey, but not over the top for a room with two bedrooms. The kids loved the playscape, pool and the mini golf (mini golf is great for small children but cannot be compared to the larger commercial mini golf courses), and the grounds appeared well kept. The staff was great. Genuinely friendly, accommodating and engaging with the kids. Appeared to me they enjoyed working there. The only fault with the resort is that the dining room was only open for breakfast. I would expect a resort this size to have a full service restaurant on-site. Had to go out or order from local restaurants for lunch and dinner each day/night. Not a big deal, just a little inconvenient when you have two young children who are very tired from visits to Santa's Village, Storyland and train rides through the White Mountains. I have to say the recommendations from the staff on where to eat were great. Most nights we ordered takeout and ate in the room and the food was very good (full meals, not just pizza).

We stayed two nights with our children 5 &3, along with my mother in law. We had a mountain view room and we rented a cot for an extra $10 a night. This was well worth it. The decor had been updated since out stay last year and it really looked nice. The breakfast was very overpriced for the kids (6.95 for 3 yr old???) and we opted for Dunkin Donuts across the street for the second morning. One thing my 6yr old loved from the year before was the Wii contest (Sunday 8pm) so I specifically asked for it when we checked in on Saturday and I was told they were having it. So I spread the word to other guests, BUT the next evening around dinner I asked where we signed up I was told they weren't having it....I said I had been told they were having it and that I had told other guests, so the manager said "we'll put something together". It was a hit with about 20 people coming however the staff person didn't seem thrilled about being there. My son loved it none the less and since it was raining it was much better then being stuck in the room, or in the pool as you can even get tired of that after a while.

I am glad we made your stay a pleasant one.

They weren't going to do the Wii contest, because of a presumed lack of interest.

I guess you proved us wrong. I am so glad you spoke up and helped us get the paddles moving.

Overall this hotel delivered on what it was supposed to be. A family friendly place in a pretty good location in proximity to North Conway.

Rooms were clean, staff was nice, facility was taken care of nicely.

Outdoor pool was a bit colder than I would have expected for a 'heated' pool, and the paint was flaking off the wall and the bottom of the pool.

Other than that I really didn't have any complaints. Overall a 'Very Good' rating.

Just returned from a 5-day 4-night stay at the Fix Ridge. Booked thru Expedia with a 30% discount so i was quite happy before setting foot in the place. Fox Rdige offers basic amenities, indoor and outdoor pools were very nice. Breakfast and dinner offerings looked very good, they we always ate out. They have a little mini golf area, very old, but for free one can't complain. Nice view of mountains from a lot of the rooms on both sides. Setback quite a ways from the road which is really nice. Minor complaints are low water pressure on toilets and shower, but I imagine that's likely at most places. Could hear a lot of creeking on the floor from the room above us, often late at night and early in the morning, but it wasn't enough to get uptight about. Staff was nice and courteous and the place, for the most part, was very very quiet. Lots of kids, but as a parent with much older kids, I didn't find this to be a problem at all. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
