“Terrible - Rotting - Mold -”

Isaac Merrill House

The web-site was great and they certainly answered my phone calls when booking. Upon arrival we were taken to room 10. Between the rottening floor, the mold smell and dirty, meshed up bedding we immediately went down stairs to tell them we could not stay with them. Oh this is very funny, the TV they mention, is about 10" screen! We should have known when we were the only guest and the rest of the town was pretty full. We checked out and were given a 1-800 #. We must have left 15 messages, no one even had the business sense to call us back. We have filed a complaint with the State and plan to pursue getting our money back. I have a feeling this will not be easy. DO NOT STAY HERE, there are so many other nice places in North Conway. Betty Allen, Florida

“Would not stay again”

Isaac Merrill House

I would not stay here again. I'm pretty simple and easy to please but come on now. When I called to make the reservation I was told that I would get the larger room with fireplace. First off this room was the size of my cube at work. When you walked in the room, it slanted so you felt like you were at the fun house. It had a terrible forest green rug and there stains all over the bedskirt. The bathroom paper was peeling and there wasn't any water pressure what's so ever. There was a small chair next to a table that made it impossible to get into bed from that side. The chair was stained and ripped. This was room #9. I did take a look into 13 and 10 and both looked ok.
The only positve note is that we did have a nice breakfast that included, juices, milk, coffee, tea, blueberry and plain pancakes, fruit, yogurt and bagels.
As my husband put it, you get what you paid for.

“Would Never Return!”

Isaac Merrill House

We just returned from a two night stay at this Inn (July 20-21). To say the least, we were extremely disappointed in every aspect of our stay, from the room (dirty, warped floor, squeaky bed) to the inadequate breakfast. As mentioned in other reviews, there is no overnight staff. We called in an emergency one night (the day staff had left an outdoor hose running which in turn flooded the lot) - not even a thank you from the rep that showed up to shut off the valve. I would strongly discourage a stay at this Inn.

“Very Disappointed”

Very disappointed with the general condition of the rooms, very tired and in need of some much needed updates.

The room advertised "with a fireplace" was on the third floor, a difficult trip with suitcases, very small with a gas fired fireplace stuck in the corner. The other room we booked was advertised as having a spa bath which turned out to be in the very small bathroom, single person size and very old!

We were so disappointed that, although we had booked two nights, we were intending to move on after one night but the proprietor refused to refund the second night so we moved to larger rooms on the second floor which were larger but still tired and with bathrooms in need of modernisation. The walls are extremly thin and noise from other rooms is a problem.

It looked good on the web site but was a real disappointment.

After reading the reviews posted on this site I was nervous about what I would find when my husband and I arrived at the Isaac Merrill House. Well, I was right to be nervous. I understand this is a very old house. Being old is not the problem, the maintenance is the problem. The room was plenty large enough but the bedding was musty and smelly and the mattress was in terrible shape. The carpet through the hallways was very old and dirty. When I opened the door to the bathroom the shower curtain fell off the the wall. There were roaches on the ceiling of the bedroom. I understand why this owner gets all his money upfront. No one lives on site. The owner lives in Boston and owns several other properties. The desk is manned during the day and early evening. After that you are on your own. There are ice buckets in the room, but no where to get ice. The snacks left out to "enjoy" are stale crackers and old cheese. Breakfast was mediocre, although the young girl in charge in the morning was very nice and pleasant. I think corners are cut wherever possible. We have stayed at other old B&Bs and have never had this experience. I would not recommend this place and would not return.
