Beautiful home in quiet area of North Conway. Excellent rooms; spotlessly clean; extremely comfortable and well equipped. A home; not a hotel. First class breakfast. The hosts - Bill and Paula are delightful, helpful and friendly. One of the best "B&B's" I have ever stayed in...

Room Tip: Any room - all are excellent!

This was the second inn we stayed at during our first visit to New England. Our room and private bathroom were convenient and quiet, although we did not spend much time there other than sleeping. We enjoyed using the Mount Surprise Room downstairs to sit and read in the evenings. The breakfasts were good and our service was good (there were not a lot of other guests there while we were there.) We arrived prior to the peak fall colors, but could tell when as were leaving that it was getting busier in the area. Traffic was starting to build in the town areas. I can imagine how crowded it could get at the peak. The Buttonwood Inn would be a very nice escape from the busy parts of town. The Inn is very peaceful there and located a little off the beaten path. Even though we didn't experience heavy crowds, it was still nice to go "home" to the Buttonwood Inn after a day of sightseeing. We especially appreciated the warm, fresh, home-baked cookies provided in the late afternoon. They were delicious!

From prior reviews, I saw comments about the policies and Bill's flexibility of such. So we went with clear expectations. It is important to keep in mind that a B&B is still a business, even if we (patrons) do not want it to feel like a business. In any case, we had a very nice stay - zero issues or concerns. We stayed in Room 4, which has the bathroom across the hall. It worked out well - bathrobes were provided, etc. We liked the room - spacious, clean, and pleasant. Every other B&B in N. Conway is on the noisy main road. Buttonwood Inn is quiet - you can open the window and listen to the raindrops in the evening. I will choose the quiet setting with reasonable policies anytime over a loud and noisey room.

Room Tip: Room 4 is bigger (and less expensive) but has a private bath across the hallway.

What a relaxing get-away for my husband and I. Bill and Paula are the best hosts, there if you needed anything or had questions. Paula is an excellent cook - we enjoyed all of her baked goods and breakfast items. They were very helpful recommending restaurants and places to visit. The room was a delight, as nice as any 5 star hotel. We are looking forward to visiting again as soon as possible.

My Husband and I have been going up to north conway/jackson nh for yrs for our anniversary. this yr when booking the inn we'd been looking at was full. In our search we discovered Buttonwood Inn recommended by travel channel and a travel website marking them as top ten. Well in our opinion they are number one. Bill and Paula the owners are so accommodating and welcoming we felt we were visiting family. The inn is cozy, quaint and pristine. Paula's breakfasts were spectacular as well as her daily fresh baked goodies :). We truly can not praise them enough. We sincerely hope anyone reading these reviews will book a visit to Bill and Paula at the Buttonwood Inn home away from home

We had spent a lot of time researching where to stay in North Conway and had been heavily influenced by the reviews on Trip Advisor - be warned. The Buttonwood Inn is in a quiet peaceful location but on our arrival it looked somewhat rundown and in need of redecoration. The rooms were fine, but very small and the bathroom had no bath, just a tiny plastic shower. For the price we were paying I had expected more and more little touches -- bottles of water in the room, nice toiletries etc - all were absent.

Much was made of Paula's breakfasts, which we were looking forward to. Unfortunately you are not allowed to have breakfast until it suits the owners - 8.30. Far too late for travellers who want to get up and get going, especially those from Europe who will be awake very early. The breakfast itself was fine, nothing special, a very small glass of juice and two dishes - no choice. The main problem was the timing and the very slow service. Bill served breakfast and during our stay some guests waited over half an hour before receiving any attention (or food!!).

Our main complaint was the very unfriendly attitude of Bill and Paula. As previously noted on these pages they seemed far more comfortable talking to fellow Americans and our welcome was certainly not warm and friendly. Be warned about some of their restaurant suggestions too, although one (The Lobster Trap) was excellent.

All in all, a very disappointing experience and not a patch on English bed and breakfasts which are half the price.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a bath and a decent shower.

We were on our 4th night traveling through the Vermont and New Hampshire during the fall color season. The only mistake we made was spending to much time site seeing on our way to the Buttonwood Inn. Bill called to make sure we were all right and to make sure we were still coming. We were to late to enjoy the hottub, kind of wished that it would be available late so you could enjoy the evening sky but not a major issue. The place was very beautiful. Nothing was out of place. The antique dresser in our room was done by a true woodworker. The breakfast was excellent; we were served as soon as we sat down. It took a little while for the main course, but it was very relaxing and it gave us a chance to talk to some of the other guests. We were very happy with our stay here.
