We have probably eaten at the Shalimar over 10 times in the past year alone, and will always choose this restaurant over anywhere else in the area. Whenever we visit, the service is always impeccable and the food delicious. After eating at many different Indian restaurants, including in England, Scotland and Washington DC, I would rate the Shalimar as one of the best.
We always try to take guests here, and not one of the many has ever had a bad thing to say - and have always enjoyed their introduction to Indian cuisine. One of the best things about the food is that you can enjoy ask for different levels of spice - this is a real treat for those of us that like tasty food and a GREAT change from so many of the restaurants in the area that serve middle-of-the road American bar food, with identical menus and appalling service. As a local in this area, you really come to appreciate good service as so many places do not appreciate the possibiity that you may come back one day and are not just one of the many 'eat there once on their trip and never agains'.
I find it extremely dis-heartening that so many people have not appreciated the Shalimar for it's delicious, AUTHENTIC, Indian cuisine and great service. The lunch specials are particularly good. Indeed, the only times that I have been disappointed are when I pull in there at 2.30pm, there is an open sign, and I get so excited, but they are closed until dinner, and my belly positively sulks in dissapointment, as there is nothing quite like it when you are in the mood. The response is always the same: "guess we'll just have to wait until dinner!"
I would have one suggestion: those that find the menu at Applebees exciting will not enjoy the Shalimar - the food is simply too good and will be lost on you.
