“What a stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

We had stayed here a few times previously, mainly in winter, to take advantage of the nice rooms, great hottub and back deck, and Bob's fabulous hospitality. So it was an easy decision to make to choose the Cranmore Inn again for a short honeymoon after our recent marriage.

And what a stay we had!

The breakfast and the cookies and the hottub and the inn and all that were all great, but we expected that! But Bob pulled out all the stops for us, setting us up in the nicest room in the inn (with an indoor Jacuzzi!), and he and his Mom Jean treated us with such warmth and care. They made our special weekend even more special! Thanks so much!

Room Tip: If you are a couple, ask Bob for the great room near the hottub and the flower bed: its got an indoo...

My husband and I just stayed for a weekend at the Cranmore. It was a gift from our children for Christmas 2011. We really didn't know quite what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Bob and his entire staff were absolutely wonderful! Friendly, accommodating and eager to make our stay one to remember...which they accomplished ten told! Bob's mother, Jean, was just delightful. Despite her 80 odd years, she was welcoming, cheerful, smiling and had a great sense of humor. We fell in love with her. Our room was just great..impecably clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was also fantastic! Menu choices were wonderful, cooked exactly as requested and the service was top notch. Bob was great to talk to and you could tell that he was intent on making our stay one we would remember. His hard work on the renovations to the Inn really showed in his attention to detail. The location is within walking distance to the town with wonderful shops and restaurants to choose from. This may have been our first time visiting the Inn, but it surely will not be the last. We look forward to returning and have no hesitation in recommending it to everyone. We just can't say enough about how wonderful it was. Thank you Bob, Jean and all of your staff for a great experience we won't soon forget.

We have stayed at the Cranmore in in all seasons for more than 20 years. A grand old hotel building, it clearly is from the era when a steam express train brought Boston to its doorstep. The last two owners have been renovating and updating, especially Bob in the past few years. Always cheerful and accommodating, he has dramatically brought 21st century amenities to this Victorian setting. We recommend the Cranmore Inn to friends as an economical gem in the center of North Conway. Need a five star Mies van der Rohe cereal box? This ain't it, and we're so glad. Come to ski, hike, leaf peep, shop, or just relax in the hot tub. Enjoy.

Room Tip: New suite has its own hot tub!

Bob and staff were great. They accomodated my vegan requests and even lent me some covered bowls so that I could mircowave some food I brought. Our room was comfortable and the location great.

We have stayed at the Cranmore Inn several times in the winter and once in the summer. It is in a great in-town location - walking distance to everything in the village but on a side street so not too noisy. Bob continues to work on renovations and the rooms and common spaces get nicer every year. The breakfasts are substantial and tasty and the chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon are great! Looking forward to more visits in the future.

Bob and the entire staff were friendly and helpful throughout my weekend stay. I was in the Owner's Suite, which is all new and very spacious and comfortable, as well as being at the end of the hallway and away from the comings and goings of other guests. The suite has a fully applianced kitchen, two bedrooms with queen beds, a living room with a big TV and fold out sofa bed, and a small but private bath. One of the really great things about the inn, though, is its location: walking distance to a variety of restaurants, shops, ice skating rink, movie theater, and more, and just a minute away from Mt. Cranmore by car with its skiing, tubing, fitness center, mountain coaster, and all the rest. I would definitely return.

Our group of friends and their kids have been spending a long ski weekend in February at the Cranmore Inn every year since 1992, and we love it. It just keeps getting better.

The Inn itself is beautiful and charming. Built in the mid-1800s, it has the old-fashioned architectural touches of another era, but is kept in top condition, with the modern conveniences that make a great B&B so comfortable. The owner and innkeeper, Bob, has a construction background and has been making substantial improvements and renovations every year since he took over in 2007, while still maintaining the historic character of the inn. The inn itself has a long and storied history, which is documented with photos and descriptions on the walls.

The beds are comfortable, and every room has a private bathroom that is renovated and excellent. There is free Wi-Fi, for your laptop or smartphone or tablet. One of the best features of the inn is the large and comfortable living room -- couches, chairs, fireplace, lamps; great for relaxing, reading a book, or catching up on email. Plus, it has a separate lovely TV room with couches and chairs and a huge TV. The parents can relax by the fire in the quiet living room while the kids watch TV and play games in the TV room.

Like the best charming old B&B's, every room in the inn is different - a fireplace here, a 4-poster bed there, flat-screen TVs in many rooms, sometimes a pull-out sofa or a trundle bed for that extra child, some are suites - but as my friends and I can attest, every room is warm and comfortable and attractive. The room rates are competitive, and an excellent value.

The inn has certain special rooms. They just finished the Romantic Suite this year (one of the families in our group stayed in it this weekend and really liked it), with fireplace and jacuzzi and bedroom with queen bed that closes off from its private living room which has a fold-out sofa and TV. They have a Deluxe Room (Room 203) on the second floor that has a king size bed and trundle day bed, with gas fireplace and a TV and a beautiful little deck with sliding glass door that overlooks the hot tub. They have an amazing 2-Bedroom Kitchen Suite which is huge - two separate bedrooms each with a queen size bed, a large living room with a TV and fold-out sofa that is great for get-togethers (that's the place where the teens in our big group hang out), and a full kitchen complete with dishwasher - the whole thing is bright and beautiful. They also have two Family Suites, each of which has two bedrooms with a queen bed and twin bed in each room, a private bath for the suite, and sleeps 6 people total. And then a whole cornucopia of other rooms of various sizes, historic decorations, and configurations. When you make a reservation, talk to the innkeeper about the particulars of your situation (a couple, a single, a family with small children, family with teens, etc.), to have him set aside just the right room or suite for you.

The staff is friendly, efficient, and accommodating. A very welcoming check-in, help with whatever you need, suggestions and directions to local sites, and instant attention to any concern you might express.

Breakfast is delicious and the service is excellent. Eggs made any way you want, french toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, cereal, bananas, prunes, many different fruit juices, coffee, tea. When they found out my daughter has celiac, they made her gluten-free pancakes all 3 mornings we were there and she was totally delighted. The wait staff is attentive and friendly, with food coming out quickly so you can hit the slopes or go outlet shopping or ice skating or sleigh riding or snow tubing or whatever else you have planned among the many North Conway activities.

The inn's outdoor hot tub on the beautiful deck is a big hit for both the teens and adults in our group. This weekend, it was just 7 degrees outside, but 6 of our group jumped into the hot tub which is kept at 104 degrees. It's quite an experience to sit in the hot tub with the frosty air and the lovely, snow-covered surroundings.

The inn is in a great location. It's in the center of town, about 2 blocks from the main street (Rt. 16). Very quiet, yet just steps from everything in North Conway center. There must be a dozen restaurants within just a few blocks walk, the public outdoor skating rink is just 2 blocks away, plus the shops and art galleries and all the rest. Plus, it is one of the closest inns to Mt. Cranmore, the family-friendly ski mountain that is right in North Conway (our favorite ski mountain anywhere, also has very fun snow tubing and the new "mountain coaster").

Our family has been coming to North Conway for nearly three decades. For old-fashioned beautiful charm, excellently maintained and renovated facilities, friendly and accommodating staff, delicious breakfast, large common spaces, and close proximity to North Conway center and Mt. Cranmore, this is the best inn in North Conway, in my opinion.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor are super quiet. The Family Suites are a bit more ordinary but still immacul...
