The 5hr trip up to the mountain and back is always a pleasure. The best part is arriving to Crawford Notch state park to have lunch is beautiful and breathtaking.

“Not what we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We took the 55 minute train ride. There was a narrator on the journey out, we had a 20 minute stop at a cider mill. Then returned the same route back to the station. Word to the wise - the cider mill is a ripoff. $8 and change for 2 cups of cider and 2 very small donuts, don't waste your money. Spend it on a longer train ride.

Due to high temperatures in March, which caused apple buds to appear, only to be zapped by frost in April, 60% of our local orchards’ crops were lost, resulting in a huge increase in the cost of cider apples. The apple cider sold at White Mountain Cider Company, aka the “Cider Mill,” is made from local apples, washed, ground, and pressed onsite, resulting in an all-natural, unpasteurized beverage that is as fresh and delicious as anything you will ever taste.

Yes, this reviewer did spend “$8 dollars and change” on his refreshments there. The home-made apple cider donuts, made fresh daily, are 75 cents each, and the cider is $3.50 per serving, (less than that of a mass-produced latté at a popular coffee franchise). We are very happy with our long-standing partnership with the Cider Company, and, overwhelmingly, our guests are delighted to stop there.

“AWFUL railroad trip!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

This was HORRIBLE! Not one scenic thing. A waste of $60 and my time on vacation.
This was the worst vacation thing I have ever done!

I sent a PM to this reviewer in an attempt to get more specifics, with no response. S/he obviously has had multiple vacation experiences, and we're the only review ever posted on TripAdvisor? Hmmm...

“Fun tour, would skip the dining cart”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We did the dine and ride. It was fun and I would go back if we had kids. Maybe in the future. The kid next to us was having a great time. But I was expecting something a bit more romantic not as much kid friendly. It was just cheap food and a small glass of wine. The ride did not have as much views as I expected either. The waitress was the best part, very entertaining. She did a whole show with spoons! I find that stuff funny, others may find her distracting. Again, the kid on the train was laughing the whole time. It really seemed like a great expereince for him.

Overall the ride was great. It was a beautiful trip and I really enjoyed it. It is something that you need to try while on vacation in North Conway. I would save money next time and just take the regular tour and eat when we get back in the resteraunts in town.

“A Great Ride BUT No views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

One would expect that a rail line in the White Mountains would have wonderful scenic rifes. I quote from their web-ste "Enjoy some of the most dramatic natural scenery in the East as you travel through spectacular Crawford Notch – past sheer bluffs, steep ravines, cascading brooks and streams, panoramic mountain vistas, across Frankenstein Trestle and Willey Brook Bridge – enroute to Crawford and Fabyan stations.". T'aint so!
The only scenic views in the 5 1/2 hour trip was when the train stopped on two trestles, and when we stopped at the turn around at Crawford Station. The entire travel time view was totally blocked by the trees along the right of way. With the excep[tion of an old mobil home or two, and some torn up rails and ties, nothing was viewable, and this was the height of the fall color season.
The entire staff, from ticket sales to hostes, to the narrator durring the trip were friendly and knowledgable. The train cars were in excelent shape, clean and well worn, but still nice. The stations at either end of the line were small but historically interesting. THe meal served in the dinning room, was palatable and sort of reminicent of the old Howard Johnson restaurants.
But no views. In fact the car ride up highway US 302 from North Conway towards the notch was much, much better. At $67 per person, meal included, this entire experience was way over rated.

We're sorry that this reviewer was disappointed by our Notch Train. This is by far our most popular excursion, with many people returning year after year to ride with us, and overwhelmingly, it receives "Excellent" reviews on this and other sites.
