We used to visit the Wentworth regularly as it was one of our favorite getaways; but we stopped going several years ago after feeling it was looking worn. We decided to give it another try recently. We visited mid-week and it was at low occupancy, therefore, quiet, except for the dog barking occasionally in the next room. In the past we have always been greeted as Marriott Elite guests, but not so this visit. Evening turndown came late at 8:30, which was surprising since there weren't that many guests. Our room was pleasantly decorated and bright, but the housekeeping was lacking. The room was very dusty and, though not stained, the carpet had crumbs and lint on it. The lampshades were covered in dust, (and eskew-this always bugs me as it takes so little effort to straighten a lampshare), the dust ruffle on the bed was every which way and the robe hook on the bathroom door was broken and, therefore, not usable. The coffee maker was on a slide out tray in the amoire, but the cord was so short, we could not pull it our far enough to access the water well. We were told there would be coffee service in the lobby at 7 AM, but when my husband went down there was none. Someone on staff did get him some from the lounge. Due to the low occupancy the breakfast buffet was not offered, and the menu offerings were mundane and not very good. They are doing restaurant and lounge renovations as the website advises and were doing work during breakfast service; fortunately we were seated on the other side of the room, but nonetheless, we saw and heard the power equipment in use. I am surprised previous reviews remark on the cleanliness of the rooms as this was not our experience. Even the $5. water bottles for purchase in the room were covered in dust. Perhaps our room had not been occupied in quite some time. At the pool it appeared all the chairs were occupied although only a few people were in the pool, (we thought perhaps they were in the outdoor hot tub), but it turned out previous guests apparently just left their towels on the chairs rather than placing them in the receptables provided for used towels. But shame on guest services for not cleaning up the towels and dirty glassware. We really like the idea of this hotel; every room is unique and the bathrooms are interesting in their layout,and the Marina area makes for a nice walk, but housekeeping is certainly lacking in attention to detail as is guest services.
