“Nice experience but uncomfortable accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We have been before and our prior stays were definitely more positive. This time we stayed in the Echo Lake cottage and the fireplace was the best part of it. When we went to check in we had to wait for 10+ minutes for someone to come to the front. They had turned on the lights for us at the cottage which was nice. The bed in the bedroom was hard as a rock and low to the ground. Furniture was very old and dated and not in good condition (knobs missing and scratched... looked like it came from a yard sale). TV was a 27" old tv. The couch was somewhat dirty, and very worn in. The twin bed in the common area was very comfortable and had a nice trundle underneath. The neighbors with children next door we could hear them every morning loud and clear and would have been nice to have accommodations away from families (hubby was told that it was a suite but not that it was a family accommodations). The stay was positive, but the furniture definitely needs replacing and the beds should be higher off the floor and updated mattresses. There were no extra pillows in the room anyplace and only 1 extra blanket for 4 beds. I would return for another stay in a more private accommodation, however I would try someplace else first. Best part of the trip was Tuckerman's Tavern right on the premises. We enjoyed dinner there and a few drinks. Atmosphere was very nice, relaxing, casual and comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask about privacy and choose the Lodge or the Log Cabins. The other accommodations need major updat...

Thank you for your review. We are distressed to learn that your stay was not up to your standards, please accept our apologizes. Since returning to the property in May we have been working hard on cleaning and upgrading our accommodations and the property in general. Extra blankets and pillows are being purchased and added to the rooms. New TVs, players and furnishings are also in the works. Again we appreciate your review and when you visit us again you will see the difference!

My signifigant other and I went for a long weekend and stayed in one of the log cabins (Otter Creek), it was absolutely breathe taking when we walked in, the wood smell, the beautiful stone work and simple yet totally fitting furnishings for the atmoshere! It was close to town but off the beaten path so made it feel like you were away from society a bit which was very nice. The entire staff were all fantastic individuals that were willing to go above and beyond to help. I was most impressed with the owner, Chet, after seeing that I was trying to set up a cooler on the lawn to set the self timer on my camera to take our picture in front of the cabin (I'm sure he got a kick out of that, at least I hope he did, we certainly did...LOL), he observed this from across the street, came right over and asked if we would like him to take the picture for us. That was so thoughtful of him to drop what he was doing in his obvious busy schedule due to the fact that the properties were so well kept and knowing that he does alot of the upkeep himself. I have already and will certainly continue to recommended the New England to anyone and everyone whether they ask or not. We can not wait to return for another fabulous stay.

Room Tip: I would recommend the cabins being that they are seperate, there is no noise or disturbance from a h...

my boyfriend and i returned from the inn last weekend and could not have been more pleased with our accommodations. although there was not a cottage available, we were offered, at the same price, a cabin across the street from the main inn and thoroughly loved it. it was beautiful with a small jacuzzi, great comfy bed, and private bathroom. in an attempt to lower prices, they cut out daily housekeeping and offer continental breakfast only, which is fine. we can be late sleepers, and sometimes miss out on a large hot breakfast that we have paid for. my only suggestion would be to add some yogurts for that delicious granola. also, bike rentals on the property would be a great idea. there is a restaurant on the grounds where we ate nightly, more out of convenience than greatness of food. finally, we look forward to staying here again

Room Tip: love the new cabins across the street from main inn as romantic getaway

I have been coming to the White Mountains for 33 years. We never knew about the Interval Resort Loop until last year. This year when looking for a place to stay in the area I came across New England Inn. I saw a picture of the beautiful lodge and remembered driving past it last year and commenting on it. I checked out the website not expecting it to be within our budget. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a few different lodging options. Their website isn't all that informative, and there aren't nearly enough pictures. I called with a few questions and was thrilled to find they had a 2 room unit available last minute for $150 a night. Thats about the average price for tiny cottage efficiencies in the area. I was a bit nervous that this would be dumpy for the price. When we arrived in the area on Friday it was too early to check in. I figured I would ask about using the pool at least since it was raining out. The check in man was so nice. He apologized that our unit was not yet available (it was only noon so that was expected) but said we were welcome to use the pool. He was very helpful and personable. The inn was quaint. We went into the indoor pool area. It looks new and is home of the White Mountains Aquatics Center. They typically use the pool until 2pm each day for local swimming lessons and its closed to resort guests. The swim instructor said it would be fine for us to use the pool, as well as any toys they had on the pools egde. My 6 year old loved trying out the goggles and flippers. The water wasn't too warm, was a bit cool but felt good on a hot day. We used the pool a few times during our stay and it was always quiet and clean.
We checked into our room around 3pm. Its a duplex with a front deck. When you walk in you are in a large room with a couch, chair, coffee table, TV and 2 twin beds. There is a gas fire place and storage shelves. The bathroom is average size. The second room is also large and has a king size bed, dresser, closet, and dorm size fridge. We were immediately impressed with the size and set up. There was a window unit AC in the king bedroom. We turned it all the way up and left our bedroom door open and the kids room stayed cool enough too. The beds were all comfy. The place was clean and well kept. It wasn't anything fancy but more than we expected. My only complaint was that it was dark. The ceiling lights are a bit dim. The family units include breakfast each morning at the inn. This was continental, nothing special but typical muffins, cereal, coffe, juice etc. it worked for us. The property also has a large restaurant called Tuckermans. I'll be doing a separate review, but it was excellent although a bit on the pricey side.
Overall we felt this was a great lodging choice for us. We would definately recommend to other families. It was a very quiet place, not a lot of bells and whistles but clean and affordable.

My husband and I first spent a night at the New England Inn a few years ago for a special occasion and returned recently with our children. Our first stay was in the Lodge and our more recent stay was in one of the family cottages. Both stays exceeded our expectations! Our "couple" weekend provided perfect seclusion and relaxation in an updated room with plenty of amenities. Our "family" weekend was a hit with everyone since the kids enjoyed their loft and the hotel pool (which we had to ourselves). We also enjoyed supper at Tuckerman's-where we encountered the only problem of the whole trip-the portions were too large for us to also enjoy dessert!

Room Tip: If newer accommodations are more important to you, you'll be more comfortable in the Lodge than...

We are frequent customers here and can't say enough good things about this place! The Lodge across the street from the main area is absolutely amazing - beautiful wood / log cabin type rooms with jacuzzi and fire place in room. Cabins are adorable and great for a romantic get away. Family lofts are wonderful and a great deal - plenty of room for the entire family or for a large group of friends. Every time we've stayed here our experience has been great! The rooms are very clean and in excellent condition.

This hotel is just minutes away from North Conway and Storyland - excellent location!

The New England Inn is the epitome of it's name. It is old, historic and quaint, perfect for a New Hampshire getaway. Unfortunately the past couple of years the place had really gone downhill and it was truly depressing, but.... Chet and Chris have come home!!! The work they have done in just a month is incredible!!! The Cottages are getting cleaned and refreshed, the Lodge and Cabins are becoming the Romantic Vacation Getaway that I remembered. During the summer months the grounds are beautiful and being brought back to their original beauty, the air is fresh and clean and everything is wonderfully relaxing. Leaf-peepers, this is the place to be, everything is colorful and cozy. In the winter, well let me just say if you like the movie "White Christmas" this is the place to be, you would expect Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye to be singing in the Tavern. And speaking of the Tavern, The Tuckerman's Tavern is up and running again and if you get the chance, stop in and try the Lobster Mac and Cheese!!! Ok, I know you're either thinking, "what a waste of Lobster" or as in my son's case, "what a waste of Mac and Cheese" but let me tell you it is AMAZING!!! There isn't a bad season to visit this place. All I can say is "Welcome Back Chet and Chris and don't you ever leave us again!!!"

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room in the place. Cottages, Cabins or the Lodge, you won't be disappoint...
