“Friendly, helpful, good food - what more could you ask for?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

We stayed at 'SLI' for four nights in May, and found it to be a cut above the average inn.

The rooms are decorated in faux New England vintage - we had the Loon room, but could see into several of the others which were empty at the time and they seemed very similar. Very clean, not huge but big enough for a few days. Ours had air conditioning and a ceiling fan - but none of the rooms bar one have a TV. We quite liked that - it makes you go out and explore.

We had a couple of very rainy days, which put paid to mucking about on the lakes - but we found our room was a cosy retreat, and we took advantage of the coffee and cakes on offer downstairs.

Also downstairs there is a restaurant and bar, which we ate at a couple times. The food is lovely, the menu comprising mostly of uncomplicated fish and meat dishes. The restaurant is also where breakfast is served, with a different set meal on offer each day. We didn't go hungry!

Some of the rooms overlook the bar, so I suppose if it's busy noise could be an issue - but it was fine during our stay.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. A fair few were college kids and recent graduates seemingly helping out in multiple roles - waitresses, reception and so on. They kindly booked us onto the boat tour run by the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center (which is worth doing - we saw two proud bald eagle parents!).

Both Squam and Little Squam lakes are only a few minutes walk away (although neither can be seen from the inn). There's plenty of parking if you have a car (which in an area like this would be very sensible!), although it is shared with the restaurant and bar guests too.

If you're after full-on luxury, then the Manor on Golden Pond may be worth checking out - but for somewhere cosy and reasonably priced with good food, SLI suited us perfectly.

My husband and I felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived at the Inn. The manager and all the staff were incredibly friendly and dedicated to making our stay memorable. Each room is painted a different color and decorated with lovely antiques. Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfasts were hearty and delicious as was our dinner. Loved the porch swing! Since it is located on the main street, it can be loud, especially in the early morning, but this did not damper our stay or our rating for this lovely place. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: We chose one of the suites which was a little roomier than the other rooms (we peeked in the vacant...

This was our second visit to this inn, and we'll keep coming back, probably in hopes of staying in the same room! This is a beautiful, stylish and charming b/b that is run so professionally, you can't believe you are at the lake. Typically in a rural setting, you go with the punches with your accommodations as you are mainly there to enjoy the serene setting. At the Squam Lake Inn, there are days you would almost rather stay in than venture out, due to how comfortable the inn is. The staff is so incredibly friendly, well trained, and responsive to their guests. The inn is beautifully and quaintly decorated, impeccably clean, and lavishly landscaped. A real unexpected treat is the gourmet food, which is clearly always prepared to order by a very skilled, professional chef and staff. In addition to breakfast and lunch, they are currently serving dinner 7 nights a week, and have an outstanding menu. During our stay, we had 6 of our friends over one night, and we all got different entrees, and everyone continues to rave about their delicious meals. There is also a daily breakfast for guests which is different each day of the week, and always extraordinary. In addition to the outstanding inn, this is clearly the best place to dine in the area, and the locals will definitely agree. Be sure to get a reservation for dinner. Cindy, Rae, Molly, and all the others will make you feel right at home. We look forward to seeing you all next year!!

We have stayed at the SLI each summer for the past four years while visiting our sons at a nearby camp. We have never had anything other than a fantastic experience. Our most recent stay was no exception. Cindy and Rae and their amazing staff (many of whom have worked at the Inn for seven or eight years) are warm, friendly and accommodating in every way. The rooms are charming and comfortable. Every year we see the evidence of the hard work that goes on each winter to keep the Inn up to date and to accommodate the suggestions of their guests. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. We have stayed all over the world in many luxury hotels; for what it is meant to be, the Squam Lake Inn does it as well as any place we have been.

We chose this Inn because we were traveling from Maine to Vermont and wanted a mid-point location. What luck for us to find this wonderful Inn in such a beautiful area. We will definitely return! The staff was so very accomodating, the room was very clean and the breakfast was delicious. Next time we will plan a longer stay and explore more of Squam Lake.

My husband and I spent a beautiful weekend at this Inn this past Memorial Day. From the friendly staff, to the beautiful room (we stayed in the Lilac Room) to the excellent food for breakfast and dinner, Squam Lake Inn does not disappoint. It is everything a B&B should be. The decor is local and beautiful, but simple and does not feel cluttered. We saw the owner out in the garden picking herbs that ended up on our breakfast plate! The little red barn gift shop is super cute. I got some great local goat soap that had been in our bathroom - Lilac of course! We took an amazing Biplane ride over the Lakes District, and we highly recommend Lakes Biplane with Phil the pilot! We cannot wait to plan our return trip!

Room Tip: None of the rooms have lake views, but ask the owner when making your reservations what kind of view...
