“One of the BEST on the Beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

We annually visit Hampton Beach, and Purple Urchin is our stop for Wednesday nite dinner. The balcony overlooks the Seashell III bandstand, and we can enjoy live music while partaking of some great food. Great upscale food at an affordable price, the dinners are outstanding. And don't even think of leaving without trying the homemade key lime pie. The owner (Maura) had the recipe passed on to her by her late father, and it is the best key lime pie you will ever taste!! It is so good, we "reserve" a piece for our last night "farewell snack" at the end of vacation. (Just in case they sell out, which they often do)

“Smokers paradise, not ours”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

There was no one to greet us.

When we found someone, they told us to seat ourselves.

We were outside inside the screens. The smokers were puffing like crazy.

We asked about it the smoke while we ate. We were told, "They were here first."

We left.

“Nice place, cool name!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

The Purple Urchin. How can you not want to check out a place with a name like that?! We had a great table on the open-air porch (our dinner was during off-season so it was not crowded at all) We had great view of the amphitheater, the ocean and the strip below. It was a very lovely atmosphere to have a nice dinner with the family. I got one of the specials, which had a lot of food for a great price, considering market price for one lobster per pound was only $2 less than my entire meal which included a whole lobster. My husband was looking forward to the lobster roll, however he was a little disappointed as there was WAY too much roll and what appeared to be the "last bits of this batch" lobster to fill it with. It may have just been the time we went, but if you're on the boardwalk, you should probably have that stuff replenished. It didn't taste bad, it was just not a full sandwich. We would definitely go back. Thank you to Meredith Lee for super friendly, professional and efficient service; our child is a slow eater and her food came out with the appetizers and we didn't have to ask. A lot of places look at us funny for asking that, but Meredith offered it before we had a chance to think it. That's a waitress who knows her audience!

“Not bad, nice view, but nothing fantastic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We used Trip Advisor in making a lot of our choices for this Hampton Beach trip, but I have to say I didn't agree with many of the reviews for this location. This place got excellent reviews, and here is mine: Limited menu, nice decor and lovely view on the deck. My wrap was good, but my cousin's meal was not that great and she was disappointed. Prices were average. Service wasn't bad but not great either. Basically, it wasn't bad, but just didn't make much of an impression on us.
